London is stupid.

But then commuting from N Yorkshire would be a bit of a pain.
Another reason why self-employment is so attractive. When you remove the geographical perimeters it also can abridge the cost divides that falling off the pay roll can bring. Would frustrate the hell out of me to have to be a wage slave in somewhere with sky high living costs to only then maintain a similar quality of life that elsewhere could be had at a fraction of the cost.

Not everyone wants to be self-employed though - it doesn't suit everyone.

I, for example, enjoy my job, like taking home a decent salary and bonus, and having some security. Can't be self-employed to do what I do in any case.

Lady F though works in a field where setting up her own consultancy is feasible and potentially lucrative.

Also, if we worked for ourselves, would I live in England? Would I f***. Somewhere in France, near a ski resort, for sure.

I don't disagree with anything you say.

And as it happens, I type this from the airport via my work laptop and with my suncream at the ready. That mobility is worth its weight in gold to me. The fact that it can be adjusted according to income levels on a financial basis is just another perk.

Not for me.

I don't like the mix of old and new and the outside looks like a mixture of houses just stuck together.

Village anyone?

Ashton, Northamptonshire, £3,200,000 - http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

well quite a bit of it, formerly a Rothschild owned village.

Telegraph article says it's leasehold, ad says it's freehold, must have cost a bit to buy out the lease.

Looking on streetview on the rightmove ad, does the copper carrying the MP5 standing on the doorstep come with the purchase of the house?
£30million for the freehold - http://www.countrylife.co.uk/property/london-prope...

I think that this one would be on my lottery-winning shortlist;

Looking at it from the air, it looks like you could lose a few cars in there, so I'll go with small lake wink

'Near Harrogate'

But a lot nearer Leeds. I passed that at the weekend, or at least the entrance. Not a bad part of the world if you need to be in Leeds for work, not that I'd be working if I could afford somewhere like this.

My current Lottery Win has either been sold or taken off the market. frown

Luckily, I've managed to find something I like, although it's over Croyde way, so would be a bit of a commute:

This has the potential, IMO, to be a bit prawny http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3443877/Ti...

All done up, I could imagine it in somewhere like Mulholland Drive. Which is odd, considering it is in Birmingham...

I quite like the view of the house from the outside. Reminds me of the 1960's US case study houses. I can't stand the inside though, really stark & un-homely. Interior leaves me cold.

A lake would have water running into it, streams etc. A pond is just a large puddle.

Like it, but then I like that style And not dissimilar to my place (which I think is a 1960s US case study home!!)

Would you like to live in Fiona Bruce's old dressing room or Michael Grade's former office?
