That is superb but a grade 1 scheduled monument is going to be a real pita as far as dealings with English Heritage is concerned.
I believe they do regular inspections and remedial work they request has to be done at your cost. Now that may be fine but the bills can be high...

Beer is pretty close to where I live now, and probably the only place I'd bother moving too, if I came into a bit of money. Nice stuff comes up now and again, and this is the best of the bunch currently:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

The annex is really not very pretty, but would be handy, and could probably be made to look a bit nicer. The single garage is actually pretty long, so would be acceptable, and the workshop in the annex would be great for bike fettling.

I just need to find £1m, (so I could decorate and furnish it too.)

Hum, no dimensions on the floor plan makes me suspicious the rooms are small. Downstairs appears to have decent ceiling height but upstairs it looks a bit "mean". That single garage would be a put-off too. The "annex" doesn't even get a floor plan so it's anyone guess what that's like but judging by the pictures one could demolish it and build a decent 3 or 4 car garage in it's space.

We're off to look at this at the weekend...

Lovely building, location works for us, but a block of modern flats right opposite it which may put me off. Expensive for that particular part of Streatham, but a unique building, especially in London.

Blimey, that'd be quick flipping! Is yours all done?

Honestly, though, I can think of no finer custodian for a residence built for John Thomas.

No - but we'll be done in August. But if this doesn't sell, may try to work something out. Unlikely, sadly. Rather gutted this wasn't on the market a year ago. Ours is bigger, but this is prettier with a larger garden.

We currently still have my place in Dulwich, as well as the renovation job in STreatham. Ideally we'd sell both to buy this, meaning not a great deal of debt, and no extra 3% stamp duty. But then, the long-term benefits of having a rental house in London, not to mention not having paid two lots of stamp duty in a year.

Nice and lucky place to be, but some careful sums will be required. Extra stamp duty on this as a second home is about £40k, on top of the £80k or so stamp on this anyway. That's a lot of money to pay the government to live in Streatham...

Oddly, it's not listed! Have checked.

I'd love to be in a position where I could describe buying a £1.3mil house as 'financially tight'...

That's a cracker - seems cheap - all things being relative?
