But his point was that WITHIN LONDON there would appear to be far nicer homes for a similar amount or similar homes far cheaper.

There is no point arguing about whether it's better to live in London or not - those who like it - do, those who don't - don't

Your weekends sound dreadful - I had friends around who camped in my wood, we cut some trees down, logged the trunks for winter firewood, the kids rode on the lawn tractor and built a big fire then we had a few beers and a BBQ.
biggrin
I completely agree. I honestly do not get it when people talk about "the buzz of London city life". I just want to slap them. Give me the quiet countryside with a town 3 miles away over any city. I seriously don't get it and it actually bugs me when people talk about the thrill and joys of the London city life.

You honestly couldn't pay me to live in London redface

Whilst it might be a variation on a theme in terms of it being another glitzy hotel and not the Ritz, or another hipster area and not Shoreditch/Brixton et al, all of the activities highlighted by thankyou4calling can be achieved in other cosmopolitan cities. I love city life and choose it over country life (for now) but cannot for the life of me see why such a premium attaches to London in terms of living it.

One man's meat is another's poison. Many love it, and fair play to them.

I do! One of my favourite things is to burble through an empty city at 2am or so sometimes, top down, in the Aero. It's surreal, and cool.

On the Friday went to the Ritz for afternoon tea and after that we walked to Sketch bar on Conduit street passing Jack barclay on Berkeley Square and Bond street.

Saturday was spent house hunting in Esher, Cobham and Oxshott, an afternoon stroll in Bushy park then we went to Eel Pie island in Twickenham (the artists enclave) and a curry in Richmond.

Sunday drove ( a very easy drive) to the East end, on the way in Elephant and castle loads of the houses had garage sales so we stopped and browsed, I was heading to Bow and stopped in Shoreditch spending an hour walking around Boxpark before going to Roman Road for a Pie and mash lunch (£4)

After that we went and watched the football at the Blind Beggar on Whitechapel High Street (the notorius Krays pub
I can't see how that's any different to living anywhere else. Unless of course you're impressed by the Ritz, the Krays and pie & mash.

I could have had afternoon tea in Henley and a walk by the river or visit the Aston & Porsche dealerships in Reading. Gone house hunting... well just about anywhere! An afternoon stroll in Windsor Great Park and a curry in Twyford. Sunday could be a drive through Slough (kind of equivalent to the Elephant!) and perhaps a car-boot in Taplow or Holyport. Lunch could be in any number of nice pubs that the Kray's didn't inhabit but I expect Dick Turpin did (he's been in them all hasn't he?) and then watch the football in my local with a pint of Ruddles County! What is it I am not getting biglaugh

Been on the market for an age and partly renovated which often deters.

I wonder what offer they'd accept?

Hmmm, picture 6 is a bit interesting. Shouldn't there be a few more columns holding up that bit in the middle?

Funny how estate agents don't even look at the properties they're marketing when they write their crap. "Triple Garage An integral three car garage with three separate electronically operated up and over entrance doors" etc.

Within seconds I saw that one of the three is half length so not a three car garage but a double and storage for bikes or a ride on mower biglaugh

Being Pistonheads it's the first thing I look at wink

This is a perfect example of the absolute lunacy of the London market.

Anywhere outside London this would be £200k.
Agreed, London prices never cease to amaze me.

Are those fittings now seen as some sort of 'shabby chic' now ?
They'll go right along with the rising damp (photo 7, bottom left by the wall socket).
Thought i was in the Corbyn thread for a second and taking a look inside his place!

Actually, you're absolutely right!! So it's not convenient for the City at all, unlike, say, Islington.
Less than 20 minutes into Bank on the Northern Line though.

Usual anti-London arguments amuse me greatly - can nobody understand that it's possible to appreciate both town and country? What miserable little existences some must have.

There is another double mind!
I feel the integral garage rather spoils the look - I never thought I'd say this but I think I might be tempted to replace the double integral with matching bow frontages, maybe keep the mower store and extend the separate double.

Possibly if there's the land. I am always looking at these things because I want 4 garages and the thought of a house with 5 rather excited me. biggrin

biglaugh Fair enough. I was born there, grew up there, worked there for years, still have to train & tube in every few weeks. It's nice occasionally and of course I can appreciate all the history and architecture but at 60 I couldn't live there any more, you're welcome.

I should think Poole is more your thing. Just avoid the complexes on the hill, they're murder for the old folks in winter.

The London property market is just astounding, surely there has to be a crash eventually? You must be bonkers to be buying a house in London at the moment.

Having said that, there is some lovely design and architecture with London houses that you just cant find elsewhere in the country, presumably because no ones got the money/nowhere has the investment potential.
