The one being advertised next to that Belsize Park gaff is funny too: "the intention is that the street can be inhabited as an external room". If you want external space there's a lot more of that in the country, and it's a bit cheaper too.

I'm genuinely amused by who buys this st.http://www.themodernhouse.com/sales-list/hatton-pl...
This sentence is simply brilliant
"The large window opens, creating a seat onto the street so that the inhabitants can place a table on the street and use it as an external room where they can entertain and have dinner parties."
Come around my £1.35m house and we can have dinner like a tramp. Awesome.
Well, if it's pawn you wan't I'd imagine a fair bit has gone on here.

Not as offensive as I expected.http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...
Bet it goes for nowhere near the asking price though.

No visible neighbours and a clear distinction between the cottage and the extension.
Notwithstanding this often used piece of policy guidance.....
PLANNING POLICY STATEMENT 7 | National Planning Policies 11
11. Very occasionally the exceptional quality and innovative nature of the design of a proposed, isolated new house may provide this special justification for granting planning permission. Such a design should be truly outstanding and ground-breaking, for example,in its use of materials, methods of construction or its contribution to protecting and enhancing the environment, so helping to raise standards of design more generally in rural areas. The value of such a building will be found in its reflection of the highest standards in contemporary architecture, the significant enhancement of its immediate setting and its sensitivity to the defining characteristics of the local area.
AC I didn't mean literally, its been built so clearly has planning, although I'd take issue with "its contribution to protecting and enhancing the environment, so helping to raise standards of design more generally in rural areas"Notwithstanding this often used piece of policy guidance.....

Lets just say I really don't like it and certainly wouldn't dream of comissioning it or living there. Clearly others, you included, do. Takes all sorts adit would be a dull world if we all liked the same things. At least we'll never be in comnpetition to buy the same house!

No soundproofed cellar?http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...
Despite the classier than classy cinema room, it's a pass from me.

Yes. Although he isn't currently playing at the top level. How not to modernise an old house.
I grew up in this village and knew the owners of this house well. I remember it when it was still an Edwardian villa; it was a lovely, unspoilt house in a fantastic setting with mature gardens and well proportioned rooms.
Last year the former owners died and the house went up for sale and sold for just over £800k but looking at it now, on sale for double that amount I can't help but feel all the character has been lost and the layout ruined for the sake of modernity and a quick profit.
What was a lovely sitting room is now the kitchen and living room, accessed down a corridor from the entrance hall. The old kitchen is a gym and 'snug' (surely estate agent speak for "We didn't know what to call this room with no purpose anymore") which just seems odd being just off the entrance hall.
A lot of the original wood paneling has gone, the gardens have had all planting stripped away and the whole place looks like a new build on some estate just outside Middlesbrough for the owner of a discount furniture warehouse and his trophy wife to live in.
I understand houses like this, especially one as unmodernised as this one was (no central heating for example) will be expensive to modernise while keeping the character and charm they had, but it really annoys me when a developer doesn't even try.
