I've often wondered about this as well. Lincolnshire in particular feels quite cheap for what you can get. Anyone live there who can comment?
I live in a small village outside Sleaford.

4/5 bed detatched for £215k and we spent about £30k extending, now about £250-260k. Been there for 6 years.
Average salaries are some of the lowest in England hence low house prices.
Good for buy to let though :-)
Bought a 3 bed semi in the village for £125k and rent it for £540 pcm.
Its never been empty in the 3 years we've owned it.

We are 30 mins from Lincoln, about 20 mins from Grantham and 25 mins from Newark.

I work in Sheffield which is the only downside.
Similar roles nearer home would pay a lot less, no long commute but still wouldn't make up for the difference in salary.

Very flat as well :-)
Whereas I'm in S Lincs in a hamlet just outside the market town of Bourne. My 4 bed barn conversion was around £750k and one of my neighbours recently sold for £950k.

There are some parts of the County where bargains can be had and others where they cannot.

50 mins on the train to central London may have something to do with it but having only been here for a year I have no idea.

That Colorado property is very nice but way overpriced due to its location, it's probably in the Starwood area. There are a lot of douchebags driving around in G wagens and spoilt rich kids everywhere. Telluride is much nicer than Aspen.
Could you not fit anymore envy and bitterness into your post?

The Colorado property is without a doubt my favourite on this or any previous thread. It is all my own opinion obviously, but it really is brilliant. If I had that much cash, I would buy it without hesitation.

You sound very bitter yourself. Envy? Pitkin county is beautiful, absolutely. However, not at extremely overinflated prices to live in a HOA, where I am not permitted to work on my own vehicle, on my own driveway because someone is offended.

The fact is Colorado is my second home, I have spent a very long time living and adventuring there. I also spent a long time looking at real estate in every county apart from the East of the Front Range.

This is CO 82E from Buena Vista to Aspen, taken by yours truly.

I know what I am talking about and I have experienced the rich Aspen ski bums and celebrities that kicked out native Coloradians.

They are not liked by the natives in the surrounding areas. There is a reason why these front license plates and bumper stickers exist on every Subaru Outback.

Colorado native? Arapaho, Cheyenne, Comanche, Jicarilla, Kiowa, Pawnee or the Ute Mountain tribe?

I've always wondered what an Arapaho was, ever since Ian Dury used the word to rhyme with Eskimo!

He wasn't the only one to use Araphaho in the hit parade though pop pickers:

Blackfoot, Pawnee, Cheyenne, Crow
Apache, Arapaho

You can't say that, it's racist.

Not commenting on that house, per se, but if that's what the best part of a million gets you then I'm glad I don't need to live in London.
This.

I don't actually mind the inside of the house but no fking way could I walk up to the front gate everyday feeling 'well' about dropping a Million on the appearance and VFM as I understand it.
Agreed, there is no part of London culture / lifestyle that would make up for dropping $1m on that.

Also with said neighbor.. wouldn't you be living constantly with paps / journos outside the house?
