I love this sort of thing, I'm told the area isn't the best unfortunately..

Cheltenham Spa is very pricey.
add to that the perceived provenance of being a "Royal's" house.
The re-furb was designed by Verity and Beverley, a very well respected practice worth a look at.... http://www.verity-beverley.co.uk/index.phpadd to that the perceived provenance of being a "Royal's" house.
They haven't lived there for a while now and are settled over at Aston Farm in Cherington.

Seems rather silly money given it's not SE (don't know what Cheltenham property prices are like, probably daft) and no real garden/land worth talking about.
This is a couple of streets away and went under offer in two days earlier this week.....http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...
A blank canvas but still needs serious £££££ spent. Would it be worth £3m finished? I'd say not, but it's a rarely available opportunity for some-one.

So is this Google Maps view out of date then?
It looks as if the barn was originally part of the property and the house owner (or developer) has split the plot in two, converted the barn and sold it off. Such a shame, as together that would have been pretty much my ideal home (if I could afford it ). That barn would've made a fantastic garage
It is indeed out of date. Yes, the owner bought the whole, and split the property. There is now a high brick wall between them and an entirely new driveway and entrance created for the barn.
Similar fate to so many farmhouse/barn combinations around here; in fact anywhere I guess!

What is the private island part? It's not an island by itself, the land continues off on the right and is part of the same land the other side of the bridge.Zoom out from here - https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Scotland/@58.2...

It would be at least twice if not 3 times the price in a half decent part of Leeds to be fair. Castleford is very cheap. That said, a cursory google streetview suggests the end of the road on which it is situated is not that grim. But its still Castleford though..This would be ideal for me getting to work.

Is the Edinburgh property market back to the point where you need to pay twice the asking price to secure a property?http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/prope...

Not really. It seems to be about £30k above asking. The flats i'm in just now usually get listed at £180k and sell for £210k and a friend just sold his flat for £180k that was listed at £150k. He bought a house at £400k that listed at £370k so it seems fairly accurate.Im going to go try and see this at the weekend.
Looks pretty nice from what I can see online. Only thing of concern is next door seems to be a bit of a horder on aerial view.

Looks like a couple of Landies and a horse trailer. As they have a bit of land there I'm guessing they've got a horse or two. Might be a stable there too.Looks pretty nice from what I can see online. Only thing of concern is next door seems to be a bit of a horder on aerial view.

I hadn't heard of Bing maps before... the image of my house is about 20 years old.Depends how old the images are.
I like this house just round the corner from us.
Pricey, but I've lived in the area for 12 years, so still think stuff should cost half what it does. Our house is a 1930s one, and semi-detached. The Victorian's Edwardians on the road seem to command a 20% premium over the 30's stuff.
Overpriced for sure - as discussed elsewhere, this segment of the property market has been hard hit by the top end stamp duty.
If they knock £600k off it, I'd quite like it. I like what they have done inside, and these houses are very pretty when you see them. Only problem is that the road it's on is a bit of a cut-through for traffic.

They're not fans of colour or carpets are they... It needs some rugs, colour and furnishings, but I like the look.
Rugs definitely - wooden floors are a pain in these houses as they make so much noise. But I do like the house.
With you on pricing. £2m is damned expensive for the area. But given that the same sized (3500 square feet - it's huge for a London house) Victorian detached house in West Dulwich or Clapham is £4m+, and £3m+ in Balham, they're chancing it. Next door Streatham has plenty of houses at £2m, but whilst big, they tend to be semi-detached.
I love period houses, despite the fact that they are a complete pain to renovate and run.
