Hi, has anyone experience of building one of these... essentially posh conservatories, usually in a hardwood with plenty of glass. There are a number of companies advertising in newspaper magazines and the like. Would be keen to hear of any recommendations and approx. costs relative to a traditional house extension.
thanks

We have built 2 at home in the last 18 months, both to replace existing conservatories that were too cold in the winter and too hot in the summer.

The first is 8.5m x 4m, Hardwood lantern, windows, aluminium bifold doors with a wood burner pics below

The second much bigger 12m x 5m with height up too the apex of the lantern of nearly 4.5m, again hardwood lantern, windows and french doors pics below, just in the process of being finished, this room was part of a much bigger extension where we added on 160 sqM

I have detailed costings for the first and will have detailed costings for the 2nd as soon as it is finished PM me if you are interested

We initially had some of the big Oak firms quote for all oak type orangeries but decided on this more traditional style as we didn't want them like conservatories, I was intending to post something showing the overall project when it is finished which includes part of the extension being built virtually underground including 3,000 tonnes of soil being excavated!

Impressive! We are still dithering over ripping & replacing our scorching South facing conservatory, with the replacement planned to span the rear of the house (9.5m x 4m)

Interested to understand more about the difference in temperature: presumably the original was all glass. Do the doors pictured face South?

If you were willing to share any coatings in a pm, I'd appreciate that....we are currently getting quotes for possible replacements.....30K for what really looks like a too-hot very glazed one from one company, 40K for one based on a "living room" Ultraframe unit by another (like http://www.ultraframe-conservatories.co.uk/oranger...
Sttill not convinced we have the design nailed. I plan to try to speak to a builder we had recommended recently next.....

Anyone got one using the Ultraframe roof? Looks like a "regular" conservatory room with the edges boxed in to give a lantern roof effect....but I worry it will still be too darned hot!

Many thanks! Nice pics!
