So, my 'final' bill appeared and apparently my 3 bed 1.5 storey house has an outstanding bill of £1600?!

I pay £100 a month direct debit surely this can't be right?! Going to start investigating now.

FFS, I can't access any of my meter readings either, why didn't I save them elsewhere frown

Ask them to send you copies of bills AND a statement covering the last two years. My "story" appears similar to yours - they changed billing systems about 18 months ago and ended up effectively billing me twice for the same period. They issued loads of bills for the same period and then cancelled them but when I worked through the statement they had basically forgotten to cancel one bill and "double billed" as a result.

Will give that a try, did you come across any worthwhile contacts there or will I just phone up bills/payments?

If this is wrong then it's unbelievable!

Sorry no contacts. The only advice I can suggest is that, when you ring them, press the button to "make a payment" - you'll be put through pretty quickly. The option for "discussing your bill" will have you waiting on hold for over 40 minutes.

It gets worse....

A call from the ombudsman today confirms that they are not even the suppliers of my gas yet, therefore I have been directly lied to several times... Staggering. I don't think my previous supplier thinks they are still sending me gas therefore I may end up with a few months free.

Ombudsman have come up with a sensible package which nPower has to compiy with in 28 days... We'll see!

Good luck with that. Hope it gets fixed.

On my own account

Good news is that this month's reading has stayed on the system rather than being deleted as an incorrect reading.

Other good news, at least it may be good news, is that after referring it up the monkey tree a couple of branches they've allowed me to fix for the next 12 months at a slightly lower price and with no early exit charge. Oh and at the same monthly payment.

Potentially bad news is that their system thinks that over the last two months I've used 450,000 cu ft of gas.

That's going to be fun when computer says no syndrome kicks in. Oh yeah.

Npower must be the most incompetent company on the planet, they never get anything right.
When my fixed tariff with them came to an end it took them five months to get me onto the new fixed tariff I applied for.During that time I was paying way over the odds for electric&gas, when they eventually got me on the correct tariff I was £1200.00 in CREDIT !! and had to pay 00.30p DD a month??? then £120 a month then £132.Then when I got the next on-line bill as well as saying I`m still in credit for £950 my monthly DD will go up to £450 A MONTH !!!due to the excessive usage?? When I queried this they discovered THEY had mixed the gas readings with the electric readings. I think my DD`s have been a different amount almost every month this year.
As far as working out their bills,I haven't a clue?? When my present contract expires I think I`ll check out one of these new small companies.

I've been with them for a while and find their bills ok, time will tell though as this is a new house and its orders of magnitude colder than the flat we used to live in. The flat used to cost us about 6 quid a month in gas and another 30 in leccy!

I probably burned through £6 of gas just yesterday in this place!

When I rang up I got a lovely geordie lady and as I am also northern, had no problems with having to spell my surname because they can't understand my twang. So for me lovely customer service, but they're just slow getting things done.

I was asked to provide meter readings about 6 times, despite giving them to the lady on the phone on the day I set up! After that I kept getting letters and emails about how they're almost ready to switch us over. Then I got an email saying its all done! Please give us meter readings, you can use the web or the app or phone. Tried the web... account not ready. Tried the app, not ready. Didn't bother phoning.

Already paid a bill and have just recently got an email saying that we're all set up and we can start billing you! And then more letters about being nearly set up and can you send us some meter readings.... It all sounds comically unorganised, but we are getting there. Slowly.

Comical is probably a fitting term, I've been waiting a frickin YEAR for a final bill sending out, one which when it does arrive will probably request payment within 7 days.

Unfortunately they were the supplier in my new place. The absolute first thing i did was change suppliers.

"Did you realise we've got a credit of £200 from N-Power?"

"Oh that's good - we can use that for the holiday deposit!"

Two days later they sent a bill and had increased our payment by £50/month

Utter idiots and it happens every year.

I've made them reduce it.

Update.

Meter reader came round took the meter reading and the one off the label of the old meter reading when it was removed.

According to npower website I've not only used 450,000 cu ft in October but 550,000 cu ft in November. Must be about 7,000 pounds worth of gas. Bill due 6th December. Awaited with interest.

NPower must be good, they featured heavily on the BBC Watchdog prog' last night. Seems customers still receiving bills that bear no resemblance to reality. Dreadful, NPower suggest that they are working hard to put the problems right, but have they 'learnt lessons' rolleyes
Personally I am with Ovo, great Company and less expensive.

Npower - been with them for a couple of years paying £255 for gas and elec thinking nothing of it as we have a biggish house and an old boiler but I had 10 mins and I called up, said I didn't want to hunt for better rates and could they do anything that wasn't going to bite me on the bum in a year (underpay the DD) so they have a new retentions dept, put through, special tariff (yeah right) but £255 down to £188 from midnight.

Cool story bro but its made my day for very little effort - try it

So time for another update.

Been sending readings every month, each time it says, this isn't what we expected, please check, so confirm it's correct, at which point somebody may contact you to discuss.

Review date and bill dates keep getting rolled out.
Just had a text to say coming to read meter later this week.

So gave them a call.

NP It's all in hand, you contacted us yesterday.
Me Nope.
NP Oh it's got a note on the aount, but it's all in hand and being sorted.
Me What's being sorted?
NP Errrrrr

So it turns out that the system for them recording the presence of a new meter, the new serial numbers, and end / start readings of the meter has completely fallen down.

NP Question, have you checked if we've got the right meter reading on our system?
Me how can I do that?
NP It's on your bill.
Me Seeing as you haven't sent me a bill since June 2014 and that was months before the meter change, how can I check if the new meter serial number is correct in your system. Let's check it now then, I've got the numbers
NP Proudly Your meter number is xxxxxxxxxx.
Me Yes that's the electric meter don't have a problem with that. It's the gas that's the issue.
NP OK will find your gas meter number

Loooooong wait.

NP Gas meter is yyyyyyyyyyy
Me That's the old meter, taken out Sept final reading zzzz
NP Oh

Dear God, I've just gone through it all again, given all readings again, new and old meter numbers and readings and feel that it's talking to someone that basically is going through the motions of comforting noises but just wants you to feck off and stop bothering them.

Really not good enough by a country mile. useless gits. looking forward to another cock up inspired by their meter reader again.

I have no suitable adjectives. However they are breathtakingly st.

Having initially signed up in October 2013 (no typo) I STILL do not have a gas supply with them. Despite having signed up at least 3 times since then.

Even after an Ombudsman complaint, and having begrudgingly signed up for gas AGAIN four months ago they still have not managed to connect me. The little chap in Executive Complaints is emailing me every 28 days to tell me that they still haven't removed the technical issue on the account, yada yada copy and paste.

I switched to Ovo. Three weeks ago, opening readings now going in and account set up.

It's not bloody difficult.

I'm not looking forward to the final random elec bill from NPower nor the huge bill from Scottish Power when they realise that NPower are fkwits and actually I owe them for over a year of gas.

tts.

Like Monkfish I've never switched either, well not for over 10 years. The time saving (ie weeks on the phone when it all goes tits up) is more than worth any small premium.

I foolishly tried to switch BB provider once. As expected, it all went tits up and I ended up paying both providers for months as each blamed the other for not doing it properly.

That was EXACTLY why I switched to Ntts in the first place, because it was a 5 year fix so would save me hassle. bds!

To follow on from my previous woes, changed from them to first utility on November 27th, all fine at FU's end but npower decide they are going to dispute readings, even though I gave both npower and FU readings on the 27th. Cue 6 fking months of npower trying to argue they were incorrect (against their own stty estimates) before accepting my readings. During this time FU couldn't send me a bill until the dispute was resolved.

I have wasted far too much of my life on the blower to their piss poor customer service team.

I have just had the double e-mail from First Utility saying we are now your Gas and Electricity supplier so I guess it is, N Power, your move, impress me or at least don't piss me off.
