I moved about a year ago. The moving/completion date was set for sept 12th. Removal companies ordered, days off work for me and the wife ect. The day came and our stuff duly got loaded into a big van and then we waited. And waited. At 4pm we were told we wouldn't be moving as the money from the 1st part of the chain hadn't gone through due to a business name change on the mortgage company!
Got t he keys at 2pm on the 13th
Cost me a small fortune in lost days earnings,removal/ storage charges ect.
I've been advised not to pursue any claims as it seems like the solicitors have written in many get out clauses for themselves in the house buying process!
I'm yet to meet one who isn't an incompetent fool!
Very annoying as they mostly carry around a 'my s#it don't stink attitude'
Good luck!

So how is that the solicitor's fault exactly. And you should have a late completion case against your purchaser, although its hardly their fault it would seem.

When I bought my previous house (no28) the solicitor notified the land registry that I'd bought next door. (No29)

I didn't realise until 5 years later when I went to sell my house, except as I couldn't as the owner according to the land registry was the previous owner still and on paper I owned next door

You try getting a solicitor to sort a mistake out 5 years later!

Cost me an awful lot of time and money sorting it out, not to mention the stress
all the times I have purchased houses I have been sent a land registry map with a red outline indicating the property and its boundary - did you not get that?

The solicitors bang on about the Contract and agreeing a moving date when in reality thier customer ends up out of pocket when things go wrong!
If I ever move again I'll get a late completion fine/fee written into my contract.
Correct in saying my case was against my purchaser who in turn could do the same to thier purchaser.
If anyone has a recommendation of a good solicitor in the Manchester / Bolton area please let me know.
