Anybody rented a crusher?
Discussion
I've got about 8m x 8m concrete pad to break up and I estimate it to be about 19t worth of concrete. I also need some hardcore to be put down for the new floor in the garage and to redo the patio as there doesn't appear to be any base under it.
I thought about getting in a crusher, the local place hires them for just over £100/day. It would save me some cost of disposal of the concrete and purchase of new hardcore (and manually shifting 19t of concrete the 50m to the front of the house for a grab truck). I'm sure I could probably offload the spare on gumtree or something.
Anybody used one? Worth the money? The hire place says the crushed output size can be set so could probably do different sized batches and mix it for the base.

I looked into this to dispose of our concrete. You can set the size, but anything bigger than a halfbrick is too big. Then it'll only crush it a bit - so you run it hrough, reset the machine, then run it through again, getting smaller and smaller bits.
Getting usable MOT out of chunks of concrete would take days I reckon.
A proper crusher is massive and not really portable.
This is only what I was told by a hire place - worth doing your own research

I've just sent one back after two days - was a Red Rhino 4000. Got through about 50t of mixed brick and concrete rubble working from 9-5 with breaks, but would have been much less than that if I didn't have a mini digger to load it (still put a load in by hand though..) Was fine with pieces up to a foot across by 9 inches thick, and as long as you wanted.
You could adjust the thickness on the fly (didn't even have to stop the machine), which was useful when doing some quarry tiles (the setting I was using meant they could pass through almost untouched, drop it down to a few mm thinner than the tiles, and they all came out nicely crushed).
Mine is for under the drive and some paths (didn't realise there was quite this much!), and couldn't bring myself to pay someone to take it away, then pay them to bring it back again!
Was a good strong machine, but only works with clean rubble - anything muddy would get stuck. Only real issue was that the conveyor got stuck occasionally, as the slurry of fines builds up round the bottom. I had lots of water going through the spray to avoid as much dust as possible.
Words of advice would be plan for how much stuff will come out of it, and make sure that it's all broken up before it comes. Should be easy to get through a garage base in a day with two people loading, maybe even with one.
Will upload a picture later

I wouldn't expect MOT out of one, Just [rough] crushed concrete sub base. Getting usable MOT out of chunks of concrete would take days I reckon.

Used one with a mini digger with breaker to do a concrete drive and put down a sub base a few years ago for my parents.
I think we loaded some pretty big stuff into it and it came out fine!
Our ignition was a little dodgy though and the key vibrated out the machine (still running) and ended up in the crushed concrete!!!! Amazingly someone spotted it so no harm done!
