As if my lawn isn't bad enough it now has moles. Its not the odd mole hill I mind its the tunneling which seems to be rather shallow and you kind of fall in it when you walk over it. Any ideas how to get rid of the little sods? The dogs are useless at tunneling, I can't just walk around the garden with a shot gun blasting randomly at it and C4 seems quite hard to get these days.

I know someone who blocks the wholes up, and funnels his generator exhaust into the tunnels.

Presume it works.

We started using a guy recently who has been excellent.
He has to be as its a no catch no charge basis.

He came to us and caught 5 in the first week, trapped them , you wont be able to do it , we tried and failed for months.

I have caught a few in the last 2 years by hanging around fresh hills in the early morning, and then scooping them out with a spade.

Berkshire based.

Friend swears by putting a cupful of petrol down each hole - smell drives them away

Jasper Carrot had a good solution involving a shotgun and a torch.

We have a cat that sits by the mole hill for hours on end, the first twitch and he's there with a kill. In two minds about it as it makes a mess of the lawn but I like moles elsewhere.

Our cat will sit for hours for bunnies but ignores moles, which is annoying. The vibrating windmill some people have had success with - we live in an exposed windy place and they just disintegrate.

My infallible mole trap does the trick but isn't sold in the UK. Next time that you're in France on holiday go to a DIY store or a garden centre and buy "Le détaupeur" plus a few extra explosive charges. It's an electronic device triggered by the mole that is connected to a very powerful little plastic banger that you put in the tunnel, works every time. Poor little devils don't stand a chance.........

I was told they were most active at midday and that was the time to catch them. So I set up a chair near the freshest mounds and low and behold within 10 minutes the ground started moving. Spade in hand and with a bit of frenzied stabbing the job was done. The cat caught the other one a few days later.

I use a scissors type trap, with good success rate. Look for the newest hill, dig out and set trap in tunnel, cover with a bucket and spread some of the earth around the edge, make tea. Check 24 hours later, remove dead mole, rinse and repeat.

I could recreate the movie Caddy Shack in my garden. As much as I would love to do that I suspect the neighbors, the misses and the RSPCA would give me grief.

Long time since I had a garden with grass (what a waste of time that was!): I think the moles would be more fun.
