I use a Scotts Evergreen one, without moss/weed control, they are done separately. I apply it with a drop spreader, so not to scorch the lawn.

Fisons evergreen 4 in 1. Be patient and don't over dose. The results after a couple of weeks are brilliant

+1

Only use the combined products if you actually need the weedkiller or moss killer effect. I don't have any moss, and only the occasional weed which is better spot-treated IMHO.

Call Green Thumb, for £62 they call round 4 times a year and make my 3 small lawns look lovely. No over feeding, no underfeeding, no weeds. smile

er, do you have sandy or clay soil?

I have clay, product works well, and lasts (albeit not as long as might be claimed)

Piss not being taken - buy this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Lawn-Expert-Dr-D-Hessayon/...

Yes, both products will help, but problems will recur unless you fix the underlying issues. That's where the book comes in, and for under £3 s/h it's money well spent.

Surely 3 or 5 lines of advice would help?

Is your soil compacted? Does it therefore perhaps need hollow tine aeration? Would you know how to tell?

Do you have thatch? Would you know? You might need to scarify to remove it.

What's your mowing regime? Are you cutting too short?

Do you water the lawn? Is the lawn in sun, shade, shadow?

What's your existing grass type? Is it worth saving?

How much attention are you prepared to give it?

There's a lot of variables, hence recommending you read what's quite a simple book with lots of good advice.

HTH.

ETA
Besides, you'll not be able to do anything constructive until early-mid Sept when there's some moisture back in the ground.

You're welcome wink

...the other alternative is to get hold of Green Thumb or one of the other service companies that do lawn care and put yourself in their (surprisingly inexpensive for a smallish lawn IME) hands.
