celing fan stopped

when a woke up this morning i could see it had stopped, i thought to myself im sure it was on.
I recall it was making a slightly louder noise last night than normal, but this can occur when not being used for months over the winter.
It was on middle speed.
So i turned it off on the wall and back on and nothing, i could hear the motor buzzing away so trying to move, i put it on fastest speed and it started moving.
Would you say this just needs a clean and oil or could the motor be tired?
