How ridiculous. All well and good for the home user but some folk (i.e. trades people) need a powerful vacuum cleaner for sucking up all the mess created.

Even less in 2017...

"From 1 September 2017, all vacuum cleaners will have to be less than 900w."

What with things like this, solar panels and fuel efficient cars, is there a major unspoken EU panic about future energy supplies?

I'm amazed you put vacuum cleaner wattage restrictions over and above healthcare, education etc when it comes to choosing a party.

whilst I agree it is ridiculous, almost all tradesmen I know or have been in contact with use a Henry or similar.

after some googling Henry's are mostly 1200w, so safe at the moment...

Whether you can have a vacuum that is as effective at 900w with a cleverer (read Dyson esque expensive and troublesome) is debatable.

Still, always plenty of those things at the tip, but they were 'efficient'

I don't. It would be better in every sense.

The 2 best vacumns for either home or trade use are both well under 1600W so I don't see a problem myself (Henry is 1200W and Sebo is 1300W IIRC)

The annoying thing is they will probably be made in the pollution free
environment of China, and to top it off using fossil fuels to do it !!!
