Ride-on mowers
Discussion
I have a third of an acre of lawn, possibly a bit less. I wouldn't be without a ride-on, it halves the cut time at least and therefore I'm more likely to nip out regularly and keep the lawn nice, rather than face the drudgery of walking behind a mower for half an hour every 10 days.
It was a £500 ebay buy and I bought a cheap trailer to go with it -which takes 3 or 4 wheelbarrows full of logs/leaves/soil etc. and also acts as a ride for the kids.
I much prefer hydrostatic over manual but I don't bother with the faff of a collector, -once you're happy with the length of the lawn you're only skimming the top half an inch off each subsequent time and it mulches nicely without leaving ugly lines of 'silage'.

My parents have got about 1/3 of a acre and at first they had a 36" twin cut tractor, my dad then swapped this for a self propelled 24" or 28" mower. Now he has turned 60 and walking up and down the lawn for a hour plus has become a bit of a bind he is looking to go back to a tractor. It will probably be a single blade 30" version.
I have even used a single gang mower towed behind a honda big red quad to do a lawn this size so I guess it's whatever suits best!
