The Mrs is harassing me to buy her a steam mop the kithen floor. From looking through old threads I know the general consensus is that these really don't do any better job than a mop and bucket but she won't let it rest and is convinced that the steam mop is the way to go. Given that I can't be bothered to argue any more could I have your opinions on which mop is the best of a bad bunch

Cheers

I don't know if it's better or worse than a mop and bucket but the wife seems convinced by ours and it doesn't leave the floors soaking wet which is good. Used on tiles and a solid oak floor.

Just got a Vax job, think I got one from Lidl when they had an offer. Wouldn't spend loads on one.

I asked about these a while back and ended up with a Vax, not sure of the model but it's one that takes detergent rather than just water.

I think it's great, it cleans better than any mop we tried and the floor dries much quicker.
The only thing against it is build quality, it's not that well made and probably won't last more than a year or two, but then it was only £45, from what I remember.

Yep, my Vax one packed up after a year or so.

Agree with this. I like mine, no messing about filling/emptying buckets or smelly mops. Just chuck the pad in the washer when finished.

Better results than a mop although you have to hoover well before hand or it just pushes wet dust into the corners of the room.

Just a warning but you're not meant to use these on natural tiles which have been sealed (it'll remove the sealer), and same goes for certain types of wood flooring e.g. oiled. Thats what I was advised when installing ours anyway.

I have no experience of any other's, but we bought this one last week. Pretty pleased, cleans the floors well, and the attachments are pretty handy, I spent an hour cleaning the grouting in the bathroom yesterday, brilliant results.

Pretty cheap and has a 2 year warranty, can't complain.

Thanks for the replies guys, wife's most happy as you've pretty much contradicted what I was saying smile

Order placed for Vax S3S+ so we'll see how it goes

We have a Vax steam mop (not sure of the model) and it seems quite good. Better than the stty cheaper ones we've previously had.
The last one stopped working just before its warranty expired and, with no fuss, they sent us out a new one, so the customer service gets a thumbs up too.

To the OP. Your wife wants to purchase cleaning equipment. Surely, this should be encouraged. Why on earth would you baulk at paying for it? I assume she plans to use it herself.

This is coming from a man who's wife claims she doesn't know where the vacuum cleaner is kept.

Unfortunately wanting it and using it are mutually exclusive in our household ! I guarantee that it will just be another piece of cr*p that will be stuffed into a cupboard patiently waiting to leap out at me next time I open it.
