Hi

Does anyone know where there is a reasonable insulation payback calculator ?

I've had a google and some of the "examples" are ridiculous they are quoting £90 to insulate a floor hence the payback is a couple of years.

I want a reasonable guesstimate whether it's worth insulating an existing concrete floor.

If so what thickness of celotex gives a reasonable payback time.

Is there anywhere ?

What are you planning on insulating? Loft space? Dividing floor?

I wouldn't have thought floor insulation, if it involves breaking up a slab would be at all economical, I think the payback time would likely be in the 10 years+ category, but that is nothing more than a guess. It's a different story if its a new build as the cost of the materials itself is a much smaller part of the cost and you have to insulate it anyway for building regs.

I was thinking about 1-2" celotex with 18mm P5 flooring on top.

I think it will cost about £2500 - money is tight and I don't want to lose too much height but I intend to live here for 20+ years and it's on oil heating.

I'd accept a 10yr payback but not 30+
