This hasn't been done for a while as far as I can see. I need a new tumble dryer for the shed (proper block built shed used as an overflow utility type room).

I'm thinking a 7kg or 8kg condensing dryer, probably a decent'ish brand but I don't want to spend a fortune for probably 2 or 3 loads a week for half the year. I could go for vented and sling the hose out of the window as I've done with the old one if it's better but the reviews seem to say that condensing dryers are good now.

I'm looking at buying from John Lewis to get a two year warranty.

Any recommendations/avoids etc. gratefully received.

I bought a beko DCU8230W from John Lewis about a fortnight ago. It was £218 all in including scrapping the old machine.

The beko has as many settings as a Saturn 5 rocket and the same drying power as well. A load of towels are dry in little over half an hour and it quite quiet too.

Thanks.

Anyone have any thoughts on AEG as a brand now? The one I'm looking at has a 5 year warranty but mixed reviews on getting a full load of washing dry.....

I use a Maytag - takes a 10Kg load and dries it in 35 minutes.

We got a Panasonic super efficient one last year, it came with a five year warranty as well. Thank god we did as it is utter crap, service department is shocking as well.

Bought one a few weeks ago and have been very impressed. I think it was somewhere in the £400-500 range if that narrows down if it's the same one? Gets stuff dry and is very quiet in comparison to the cheaper (non-AEG) one it replaced.

That's good to hear as I've ordered it! Washing 6 loads of washing one after the other and then dragging it to the launderette to dry today was just about enough for me! The one I've ordered is an 8kg condenser at £399 but £50 cashback and a 5 year warranty. It's more than I intended to spend but the warranty swung it for me. I was tempted by the Bosch (I've got a Bosch washing machine which is great) but the AEG seems better value all in today and I'm hoping the brand is OK.

Yep, got a vented AEG from ao.com a few months back and its great! Very fast to dry, quiet etc and is a sensor dryer ( but has a 30min manual cycle if needed), we tend to use about 3 cycles of the 10 or so on the programmer.
I read some of the reviews about washing not drying but if I leave it on cupboard dry its perfect most of the time. Really happy with the purchase overall.

Quite happy with our Bosch - about £300, similar to this one: http://ao.com/product/WTE84106GB-Bosch-Classixx-Co...

Does this have a hose attachment for hooking directly to drain?

Not that I'm aware of - it has a large container in the top left corner which collects the water. You pull it out and empty it periodically.

Good news - you can get a drain kit for it too for £20. I'm nearly sold on that Bosch, seems very well regarded.

The Bosch would have been the one I went for, my Bosch washing machine is great, but the extended warranty on the AEG makes it attractive though, I don't ever buy extended warranties and most appliances work for ages but I'm not sure I put tumble dryers in the "go on for ever" category....

With any luck, it'll work for ever and I won't need the warranty!

The LG direct drive ones seem to come out well when I was looking. Not cheap but they look great. 30min which wash AAA rated or what ever was best at the time. Probably better now in last 6 months. 10 year warranty.

We have the previous version of this;
http://ao.com/product/ZDC47201W-Zanussi-Condenser-...

I didn't really want a condenser as I'm aware vented is better, but space dictates. However this is amazing! I have a 2yr old and a partner who wears everything once before putting in the wash. That combined with the British climate means a drier is a necessity.

ETA the drier has been dependable for about 3 years now.

I started off wanted a vented one as I thought it was better and as mine is for a shed then vented would have been OK. The feedback now seems to be that condensers are much better than they were and as good as vented.....I'll wait and see though!

Here's my 2p's worth.

I bought a Beko vented machine when I moved into my current house, back in 2006. It's in the garage, and the hose has been screwed to the wooden step inside the garage. When it gets used, the back door gets left open. It gets used approximately 3 times a week in winter, a bit less in summer. It's still going as well as when it was new.

In 2007 I started a new business - a hairdressing and beauty salon. This requires the use of many, many towels during the working day. I bought another Beko tumbler, but this time a condenser, as the room it was in was in the middle of the building, with no easy vent access. It was more or less running for most of the day, 6 days a week. I sold that business in 2011, however I did visit the new owner a few months ago, and the old Beko is still going strong.

Finally, although not specifically about tumble dryers I grant you - but I own 5 rental properties. I bought the first in 2002, and the last in 2005. All of them were equipped, upon purchase, with both a basic fridge/freezer, and a basic washing machine. I bought Beko units for every one of these installations.

Here we are, in 2014 - and all of the Beko appliances are still going strong (I've probably jinxed myself now, haha! biggrin ) But they must be perfectly ok, because trust me, tenants are always quick to moan!

So.....the reason for the post is that I just wanted to highlight my complete success and satisfaction with Beko appliances - despite their budget price, it seems to me that they are a complete winner?!

Our £150 Beko fridge is 8 years old and as I'd expect for a basic piece of equipment, still in fine working order.

Ive recently purchased a new Bosch Classixx WTE84106GB tumble dryer from John Lewis for £299. I generally always buy Bosch or Siemens appliances but what swayed me with this particular tumble dryer was that it can be connected to a waste pipe so yo don't ever need to empty the drawer. My tumble dryer is in a small pantry and pulling the drawer fully open to remove would be difficult. I purchased the Bosch drain kit and now the water drains into the washing machine waste pipe.

Not all their dryers can do this. When looking at their products online, if it says 'Self Cleaning Condender' at the bottom of the appliance then it can't be fitted with the drain kit.
