Bit of structural in prep for loft conversion

need to run a steel for 6 m across the rear extension, let's have a peek behind this bit,

bollix, 12"x12" poured concrete rebared lintel...double bollix...

little De Walt struggled, so...time to get the big lad out..

An hour later..

2 hours later, my lovely assistant clears it to the skip. The look I get when I put me feet up and issue instructions, Pffft :P

awaiting 2 12x12 Oak Posts structural grade and a couple of 10x6 RSJ's and stage 2 can begin.

Today efforts, drive to Folkstone and collect solid hardwood stable door, remove crappy UPVC one and fit, after buying new frame.

Sorted.

Surely you're going to lose that 1970's Greek taverna artex as well?

Have you got any plans? I am surprised your assistant is that tolerant of mess near the kitchen, mine would be photographed with hoover in hand!

I have, which now need revising, and she did have a bit of a moan, but had it all Spick in a couple of hours.

+1 please. Plus, while we're waiting, does the RSJ need an oak column to hold it up?

I'm unable to extrapolate the pixels that far... is the RSJ actually two short ones?

It's sitting on a 10mm thick 450mm square steel plate that has solid concrete under it. Then has a 2" angle socket to avoid slippage, as per structural engineers Calcs .

Simpo, yes, it's 2 steels.

Inky, fekk orf biggrin

The posts are rated to 38kn, I need 17kn for the loft conversion, wanted a margin...

Aha. Was it an option to weld the steels together and forego the post? Or is the post a design feature?
