replaced light switches in hall and landing wired it up wrongly so now it obviously doesnt work as it should

it consists of 2 switches down stairs and 1 up middle should turn on off the bottom right turn on off the top upstairs should turn off just the upstairs i think or should it i have no idea!

now i get all sorts so you just end up pressing switches till lights come on !

ive tried tracing the wiring from behind the switches BUT i get confused !

any simple way for me to figure it out or do i just get someone in

You need to get a sparky in, as I doubt anyone here will be able to tell what you've done wrong without seeing it in person.

If you can take a pic of the wiring on both switches, May be able to tell you what's wired wrong.

Impossible to tell without seeing really.

But essentials switch 1:

L1- perm live and strapper 1 (I use black)

L2 - switch live and strapper 2 (I use grey)

C - strapper 3 (I use brown)

Then switch 2

L1 - strapper 1 (black)

L2 - strapper 2 (grey)

C - strapper 3 (brown)

It does not matter which colour you use for each "strapper) as long as you use the same colour on each switch.

Ha! I've the same problem (I think) with a stairwell and one switch downstairs and another upstairs.

We had the switches replaced as the house was decorated...and now we have to leave the switch downstairs and operate it only from upstairs.

And we have had TWO electricians in (on paid time - not favours) to view without finding the solution.

Maybe we should offer it up as some sort of sparky challenge with a £££ prize fund.

lol im up for that.

id have maybe not cocked it up so badly but changing the switches in the dark wasnt the best idea, i kind of didnt think turning the power off would mean no lights wink it wasnt till it wasnt working properly i went and got a lamp
