Has anyone got any Philips Hue kit? I'm thinking of getting the lux starter kit (not multi colour). The primary reason to get it is for the wake up function where it gradually increases brightness over time. It'll massively help me get up in the morning, and the starter kit is a similar price to a dedicated lamp, but gives more options.

Is it actually worth the money? Or a bit gimmicky?

That looks interesting. I used a Lumie bodyclock and now have a Zest. So far, the LED Zest doesn't seem to work as well as the original. Maybe I'll give the Philips a try.

I'd love to replace all my GU10s with Hue multi-colour bulbs but they system is way overpriced as it stands. I'm sure they'll be some competing systems out soon and the prices will fall to realistic levels.

If the industry info is true, Philips might be out of lighting altogether before that happens.

I had these since they came out,

thoughts:

- the function of turning off whilst you've left the apartment automatically via GPS would be useless if you don't live on your own.

- the light's and variation of colours are actually of good quality and genuinely effect the ambiance of the room(s) - in party situations it was interesting to set every room to red/puple.

- you have to leave the light switches on at all times and it can be quite annoying to have to dig out your phone to turn them off.

- the gradual wake up thing is fairly good but I personally found it only woke me up when it was near fully bright.

- replacing all the bulbs is bloody expensive!
