Ridiculous.!

1. If they are supplying at cost, ask to see the invoice, note a Howdens quote.

2. It's not unreasonable for the budget to be making a margin for supplying the kitchen, but I suspect 12k is taking the piss.

Hi,

Can someone please help me, the matter is urgent.

I have the feeling that I'm being taken advantage of.

I have bought a kitchen from Howdens from my builder. Both Howdens and my builder claim that they have passed on the full discount.

It is a relatively small kitchen, with laminate tops. They are charging £12,000.

They took a payment off me for £8,000 and upon that being paid, they have delivered the full kitchen today.

Now, my builder has said that he's paid Howdens the other £4,000 and he wants me to give him £4,000 cash on Monday. Can someone please help me?
You're a wee bit late with the please help me are you not? you've handed over eight thousand pounds for a small kitchen with laminate tops? what the fk!?

The naivety is astonishing on the face of it.

Used Howden's once, and never again in the hope of buying a kitchen for the in laws. They come out and waffle a load of bks about the design, ring ME up and ask how much I want to bump their price up by.

I tell them none, as its a favour for them, just the cheapest they can do supply only.

12K!!, no worktops or appliances either as I can source them cheaper. Its top of the range but christ I was expecting about 4-5k.

They hassle me for weeks knocking a further grand off each phonecall until I tell them to jog on. They were down to 7.5k in the end.

I just can't be done with sales tactics like that.

Went to DIY kitchens in the end, equal quality and cheaper by a country mile.

Howdens discount is by and large bullst. I know joiners that get 90% discount, that's 90% discount on an extremely over inflated price from cloud cuckoo land that has never actually been paid. Fair play to them though, people suck it up and think they're getting a real bargain.

I believe that Howdens can show an invoice for the full amount. To get around it, they credit the Builders account with the difference. So to a punter it looks like the full amount has been charged for and paid by the guy supplying it.

It be why many Builders push the likes of Howdens on to their customer. Biggo margins to be had.
