Fireworks are one of those things that you can spend colossal amounts of money on, for basically 10 Mins of entertainment.

I have always flirted with the idea of going nuts and buying £500 worth of fireworks for a proper show, But it really is setting fire to cash, and for once my sensible side says " Don't do that".
hehe I caved in and went a bit nuts a few years back... i can highly recommend it biggrin

I was shopping at a Costco type place in Preston when i saw the biggest single box of fireworks i've ever seen, and had to have it, plus some rockets. I struggled to fit it in the car i had at the time.

Some of fireworks included were so big you needed a couple of people to handle them.

I didn't want to mess around with the usual crap from the supermarket and these things did not disappoint. I ended up having a big Bonfire Night BBQ and fireworks for friends and family, plus there were so many remaining that we did another New Year BBQ and fireworks.

This was the place i picked them up from http://www.jtf.com/fireworks

Have fun biggrin

I spent just under £200 for big party with stuff from https://www.fireworkscrazy.co.uk/

The Krazy Klock is a fab firework, was loved by all.

It was all a bit too impressive, then I only got to fire one proper rocket... all the blokes went "YES!" and my better half went "NO!".

I've been banned, and we've been going to the local stadium event ever since...

Can you please knock on a few doors each side of you to let them know so they can ensure their pets are in before you start.
I'll do that once they've managed to stop them doing their business in our garden especially in and around the kids play area. Not nice and a health risk to young children.

Amazing to think that children and pets have somehow co-existed for millennia; you'd think they'd all be dead by now.

And to think that a couple of generations ago kids were genuinely excited by fireworks night! Now it seems they cower in the corner for fear of a rocket going bang!

I know I was, probably a bit autistic about the whole thing though. First bit of excitement was going to the local shop to stare at the stuff in the glass cabinet and make our selection with my Dad. Then the bloke would open up the cabinet and get out choices out for us. Home and safely stashed away, then I'd send several hours looking at them and working out a firing plan biggrin Clearly remember the smell of them. The finally onto bonfire night and actually letting the things off. My Dad used to let me light some of the tamer ones but he was in charge of the rockets etc. Very exciting.

As I got older had quite a bit of mischief with the "pocket money" fireworks i.e. bottle rockets and bangers. Remember going to the shop to buy some and getting turned away because I was under age except that after hanging around outside for a bit wondering what to do next to owner beckoned us back in and sold us some stuff after all. I expect he didn't initially as there was probably someone else in the shop but once the coast was clear... Not wishing to stereotype but I suspect being a shopkeeper of Asian origin he didn't want to miss out on some business biggrin

Off to the park to be a general nuisance firing them out of goal posts etc. until the police drove a panda car right across the middle of the park towards us and we had to leg it biggrin

God knows how we avoided any serious injuries. Seems like those sorts of fireworks have long since been banned frown

That's a fairly mental looking box of pyrotechnics biggrin

Sure, sure.

But just before I do that can you stop them sh*tting all over the pavements to and from my kid's school and also stop them cr*pping in the local parks. And while you're at it get them to stop going that endless barking thing when the owners are out.

Thanks!

So to keep this on topic....

We've got a JTF just down the road from us....

http://www.jtf.com/fireworks

If I only wanted a few, not bothered about them lasting all night but wanted semi decent stuff.....

what would you spend £50 on?

Personally, I rather 5 good rockets than a box of pathetic things that go "fizzzzzzzzzz pop!"

I put all my fireworks budget into decent rockets a handful of proper big sparklers 1 really good Catherine wheel.

Quality over quantity for me.

I've always used these guys. Your better off getting a cake from them (a display in a box) than, say from a supermarket. Pound for pound they're much better. In the past I've usually for for a cake or two (£35-£50) and a few proper rockets. £100 gives you a proper mini-display.

The 1.3G ones really do stand out, so if you can get of those, do it!

If i had £50 i think it would come down to quality vs quantity.

For quantity i'd get:

1x 30 piece of varying rockets - Supreme Sky storm - £25+VAT
1x 29 piece Cascades Box - £20+VAT

Some of the rockets like the Black Hawk 5 pack are also pretty decent at £15.

The 5-piece Starbuster for £5, the 2-piece Widow Maker for £6 and the 325-shot Stratosphere Pulse for £6 are all well priced candles.

For quality:

1x 6 piece Sky Sniper - £25 (or 3 piece Grim Reaper for £30 if you seriously want something nuts) and then pad it out with something like the 12 pack Sonic Thunder set for £30, or something more spectacular but shorter like a 48-shot Thunder Strike barrage for £25.

There'll be videos of each on youtube or somewhere.

JTF have some great stuff. The rules changed a few years back, look for anything in a pyro mesh cage, they are usually great! Some of the rockets I had from there were excellent. JTF also post up loads of videos on you tube. On a side note if anyone is having a bonfire party & needs any wood give me a shout. I've got about two large skips worth of internal stud work etc to get shot of!

Can we get technical for second.

I remember a guy in a fireworks shop a few years back explaining that due to changes in manufacture (EU rulings?) that fireworks aren't as bright or long burning or something as they used to be.

He pointed me to some rockets that contained the 'old style' ingredients and I have to say they were very good compared to the supermarket stuff.

Anyone know anything about the above or is it all blx?

I forget what the stuff inside is called but as above if you get the ones in pyro mesh they are the best you can buy IIRC. I think they are called 1.3G.

Since last year ive been getting a bit into this pyro stuff

went on one of the forums mentioned above and got last years haul from lidl when they stocked the weco brand. Good gear at cheap prices. thought carefully about the sequence and got a mate to help me light fuses. didn't have too much stuff but rather a considered selection of cakes, rockets and fountains and candles with a selection box as padding. remember to go out with a big finale!

worked really well and we had the bbq on and some neighbours and friends over so was a good night

what I did miss last year was better coordination of some of the units so this year ive bought some visco fuse so with one ignition I can set off a bunch of different things!

I don't have any decent pyro shops near me so again did a split haul from lidl and Tesco

lidl are stocking tnt this year. not as good as the weco stuff but the cake is quite good. the Tesco stuff is made by standard. I only bought a couple of the fountains as the rest of then were not as good as the equivalent unit from tnt.

spent about 100 in total and am looking forward to it!
