See, it's costs like £25k that scare me, I don't really want to spend that much.
I want:
  • 5-6m wide
  • 7m long
  • Brick outer skin
  • Breezeblock inner skin
  • Concrete floor
  • Shallow pitch roof
  • Tiles to match the red 'clay' tiles on the house roof
  • Pedestrian door (white PVC will do)
  • Hormann sectional door (£1500 fitted)
I don't need to worry about the electrics as my Dad is a Spark and we can do it together in a weekend. Is that remotely possible for ~£15-17k?
Thats roughly what I'm doing.

6.6m wide by 6.5m deep
Block cavity with render finish
Tiles to match house
Hormann Sectional with Wicket Door

I'm doing as much myself as possible since I'm offshore so have spare time on my hands when I'm home. So far I'm pretty much up to DPC and costs are in line with my predictions. Aiming to get built, roof and door for about 12k plus extra for electrics and internal fittings.
Depending on how winter goes I might have to put it on hold as I don't want to lay the floor slab while temps are too low. If it's a mild winter this year I might get away with it.

Yes, I could pay somebody and have it up in a few weeks but quotes were around 25k for the job so decided to tackle it myself as a project. Especially as we found a few issues once we dug out the old garage which would have added a few k to builders costs. I've managed to deal with the issues myself for free (time only).
On the positive side it's helping me get fit.
