I've heard somewhere that as more people go for biomass then the cost of the pellets, or whatever they use, will rise.

Supply and demand and all that.

does that sound right, or is that internet bullst?
I'd say internet bullst.

The local supplier i'm going to use is saying that he's had to lower prices due to increase demand and new suppliers popping up. smile Happy days!

Who is local to you? Best price for me is Scotland at £249 for 96 Verdo bags. The Woodlets ones produce more ash but slightly cheaper.

Devon Biofuels Ltd http://devonbiofuels.co.uk

Hes got a 1.5tonne truck, basically a full load works out at £230 a tonne.

an old boy runs it, he's so proud of how dry his pellets are he keeps having random batches tested smile

Just double checked, its 1250kg load he can do.

£305 delivered including vat for 1250kg, my rubbish maths makes that £2.44 per 10kg delivered?

Right after various chats - plumber reckons I can roughly drop his quote by 4k if we take out the oil boiler and is happy to work with the company in question.

His first window is end Jan in line with the Bio Mass company - so no issues either way.

Bio Mass company have also confirmed I can site the boiler in the external garage, so I can minimise the disruption in the house which is good news too.

What I need now is the Green Energy Survey and to convince the wife, plus an estimate of the cost of the Bio Mass boiler to see if it stacks up.

Do they comply with EN Plus A1 standard? Not much different to the bags then. Mine is delivered price too!

FFG, should have said, they are in bags, thats what I need, you can choose 10 or 12kg.

All en plus a1, they're also on all the RHI suppliers lists.

Also take into account that the storage heaters probably have asbesdos inside so cost a lot to dispose of

I know an energy company near me quite well, they're certainly selling more biomass boilers lately. They won't be in your area but their site gives an idea of prices - for a ballpark figure, general info and FAQs on biomass, the RHI, prices of boilers, pellets etc: http://www.allbriteuk.co.uk/categories/domestic-re...

Hope this helps!

Brilliant thanks!

Guy at work has just had one fitted by another local company. So giving them a call shortly see if they can come out and give me figures before we head off doing the assessment.

Someone was saying there might be a threat to the tariffs in the new year though so I may end up a little worse off.

It looks like domestic rates for new applicants are going down 10%, however you've enough time as you only need the boiler 'in'.....

Good news!

Spoke to another company as someone from work just had them fit out their house with a wood pellet system, so real experience and recommended.

Company were excellent on the phone and sending someone round Friday to quote for both so I get a direct comparison.

Already highlighted some things to consider and said to wait getting an assessment as they can give ballpark figures before we spend money.

They can also fit us in earl next yr either way so no more storage heaters soon!

Other half is open to idea now, once I said it would be in our external garage so no fuss inside house.

If my calculations are correct looks like wood pellets work out about 5p per kWhr (at 240 pounds a tonne).

Thats right on bagged deliveries, if you've got the space/cash you can have blown delivery where it can come down to about £190ish a tonne.

I think oil is about 5'ish'p at the minute also but prices are amazingly low, same for gas where its about 4.5p.

So plumber came round Friday night - good guy and very sharp.

He pointed out my other quote included fitting an oil boiler inside the house, which in his view wasn't the way to go due to smell.

Fitting of the system into the garage presents him no problems and he wasn't phased at all with access to under the floors etc.

I am just waiting for the quote but he estimated 22k for a Windhager, 10/11 raditors, fitting etc

Due to phone tomorrow to get the EPC/Green assessment completed.

I am not sure whether I have cavity walls or whether they are insulated, so that might be something we need done as part of the process.

He is quoting for oil too - so the good news is either way we are happier with him as a company!

Righty...

Survey done and there are cavity walls :-(

However they may be too small to fill so I need a survey from an insulation company.

Bad news is that I cant get anyone out until the 15th or later, putting me badly behind for a post xmas install.

Not only that they can do the job until well into the new year.

Still waiting for the RHI calculation to come through as well.

Do you have the EPC from the Green Deal assessment? If so the heat demand (space and water) can be added together and multiplied by 12.2p to give you your annual payment. The heat demand on mine is right at the end. If recommendations included loft insulation or cavity wall insulation you'll need to get these done and get it re-assessed to be eligible for RHI payment.

Not yet - it was promised this morning but not come through as of yet.

Yeah that's the frustrating bit tbh in terms of the payments and application for the interest free loan.
