So after much hurdle hopping we are down to the wire in terms of getting the RHI before it drops in April.

So sat at home right now waiting for the Windhager boiler to arrive today smile

Looking forward to it actually - sitting at home shows how bloody awful storage heaters are.

Sounds good. Hope you've got some help as ours was about 400kg and it took 5 blokes to get it into the room and off the pallet - its is bolted on in a few places so you'll need to remove these before you can get it off the pallet.
Is it a Biowin 2 with the flue exit on the top. If so wish our was as the exit is at the back and its impossible to access now.
FFG
Apparently its on a pallet and can stay on it I hope - its going straight into the garage which is flat heading onto the drive so hope its easy!!

I don't know - I think it is, its the Exclusiv model according to the tear inducing invoice.

Ah yeah according to the model designation its the BIOWIN2 EXKLUSIV smile

It's going outside and needed to take up minimal garage space.

EDIT - Solid Concrete garage floor so no issues there I don't think.

Well all in the garage now, took a bit of effort with the delivery driver (he assumed a squad would be here working on the house!).

All present and correct, much smaller than I expected too actually.

I went for weather compensation controls after some haggling given how variable it can be here - this winters been a real mix of warm days to cold nights and weird patterns.

Thanks FFG...

The garage is not used for a car ever, so the plan at the moment is to store the bags in there. Plenty of space and they can be kept at the far end away from the boiler.

Its large well built detached garage so pretty dry.

I can then work out consumption and whether I want to build something outside.

Oh and its a 200kg manual hopper so I guess around a weeks run time in the winter.

If the floor is concrete may be worth keeping them on a pallet so there is air circulation and they don't absorb the damp from the floor. If you keep it topped up the pellets should dry more inside the hopper. I'm consistently using 3-4 bags a day when its been cold (the last month), with the heating only set to 18 degrees for 90 mins in the morning and 5 hours in the evening. Min temp. is set to 15 which is throughout the night and during the day. It works better this way and uses less fuel as the temperature differential it has to make up is smaller and its ticking over (modulation mode) rather than being at full tilt.
Was size of boiler is that FFG?

Will keep the bags on the pallet in that case - my plan was to have two at any time so that we don't have to panic buy.

During the cold months we were using 3x12.5kg bags a day, heating and hot water, heating on full weather comp(18deg inside) 15deg overnight. Family of 5.

Its been costing about £300 a month during 'peak use' so winter etc, It should drop down to about £80 a month over summer.
What kind of size of boiler ?

So installation kicks off tomorrow - they are working over weekend to make sure its done in time for the RHI reductions, which is really good of them.

Most interested in how they intend to get the thick underground pipe into the house. Its a solid concrete foundation due to the water table around here (near to sea and low land) so I am interested to see how the are going to do it and protect the house from water ingress!

Perversely the weather is getting better, but a high power unvented shower is going to be a treat.

Well a week in and enjoying a rather too warm house at times.

I have a few niggles about how pipes come into house and are exposed outside (although covered) but overall it's good to have an even temp in the house.

What I would say though is there are some un-expected elements to this. The manifold system in the utility room is an impressive feature but something I wish had heads up about in advance.

Pellet use seems a little high just now, but I have yet to start tweaking the timings and temps much. It has weather comps, which I gather take some time to settle in and get used to.

It seems to come on very quickly after water use however and is set to keep the temp of the hot water to 55c constantly. I gather that its more efficient to have the boiler coming on more often (it does modulate) but the old school in me wants to set it to only heat water during peak periods!

Well for anyone interested - we have the first breakdown. They are heading out this morning to check but it looks like the auger motor has failed.

Funnily enough they had trouble starting it on install and it was "clanking" slightly last few days (I did call them).

Hoping this is a teething problem.

My guess it will be the plate at the bottom of the burner bowl which spins around the clear the ash when the pellets are burnt. This needs to be in properly (over the 2 guides with the pin nearest the door (you'll need to lean in to see it) through the hole and the plate flat on the base of the bowl) otherwise it will make a clanking noise, like metal on metal.
This plate also gets caked up in carbon so will need cleaning say once a month at least. Ours has suffered recently as it seems to clog up a lot quicker which we were told could be damp pellets and the moisture is causing the ash to stick and build up as carbon therefore inhibiting the movement of the plate - but the pellets are inside by the boiler in a dry warm environment so don't believe this.
Assume you've been told you need to clean it regularly and left the tools to do it. I always empty the ash bin at the same time now.
Have Windhager commissioned it yet? Does the display screen go red and return an error message?
Good luck.
After the first breakdown about a month ago, which was the heating element replaced under warranty, we also got another as a spare.
FFG
Thanks for that!

The pellet feed wasn't working at all and it was displaying an error in terms of empty burner bowl. Turns out that's the error for the heating limit being exceeded, because no pellets were getting into the burner. I emptied the hopper right out and sure enough the auger wasn't turning at all.

They messaged to say its fixed a wee while ago - but no explanation yet.

They commissioned it themselves, but I email windhager about a few things and changed quite a bit. I am tempted to ask if they will come up and review the whole boiler set up make sure its running right.

Examples being that the boiler optimisation wasn't switched on - despite me having the MES+ weather comp.

I think you need eyes open on this for complexity levels before fitting TBH.
