Thankfully that backer board stuff has been used. Granted, this has not been the builders finest hour.

You do not use tile adhesive to glue it down. Should be glued using a PU adhesive, Mega Strength Adhesive, and then screwed, glue the edges, no need for tape.

still needed to be primed before tiling, with an SBR primer

Why buy another product for a cement board? Tile adhesive will be fine .Using a self expanding type glue is no better .We always use a plasters tape to reinforce any joins . Still looks like a monkey is doing the Job. Best check that tray for any damage after 'it" has removed what should never be there in the first place .

Right now, we LOVE Mapei G primer. For love of God don't let anyone use PVA !!

Always best to follow the manufacturers instructions. But hey if you know best.

They want you to buy their products !!
And if you watch their install video. the guy looks like he has never done it before ! The application of the glue is a joke

Just Finished 2 luxury bathrooms on Abbey Road .Thats new wall, floors, electrics, plumbing , tiling underfloor heating the lot .No change from £37K , been in the Game for long enough not to want to work with others ! I have seen too many "Corner cutters"

And adding a flooring like this to Chip etc is still a disaster.

Yes they want you to use their products, but if you ever have an issue, not following their procedure / using their products will give them a get out.
They may even view using the 'wrong' adhesive as cutting corners?

Why do you think it is a disaster, assuming the backing board has been correctly fitted?

I'm not quite in the £18k spend on a bathroom league.
Thanks for all the advice guys and gals, lots of different opinions, seems clear to me there's no definitive right answer to fitting a bathroom, but I think I can tell who is offering genuine helpful advice.
Cheers

Try making a claim against them for anything ! The monkey in the video cannot even glue a board down well.

Its about been good a your work and confident enough to say "bks" to a client (I charge enough not to call them 'customers" !) when they start demanding a nasty job. if a trades person uses "leylands" gear etc and plods along typical "before the Poles upped the odds" way .Then let them think they are Good.
bathrooms are a major area for things going wrong and everyone blaming each other and the materials etc . I love my work , but by god do i hate the "trades" Most have no heart to do a good Job and how to give good advice .The very fact this monkey is using a new tray as a "dustbin " tells me all i need to know about their attitude to doing a good Job

Last year i had to re do 2 "wet rooms" done by a rather "Up their own ass" London design company . Did they bother to work out the weight bearing of the new floor and stone etc ? no they did not........The joists had been left as they found them. so no surprise when it sank and pissed water everywhere . Its what a customer will never understand or see that makes a good job.

I have seen it many times over the years on jobs. I 100% hate the trades and try to work around them. they steal tools, make excuses. always asking for advice or to borrow etc . Its the "Bone head" mentality that so many of them have .

Gents, it was protected, but agreed I wouldn't have put tools there but it was his risk. To put minds at rest I checked tray with a magnifying glass and it's perfect. He just needs to come back and clean up before getting paid for a job well done.
