Two months have gone by since having a softener fitted and I still don't have soft hot water. The hot water tank is about 6 months old. Is it normal for soft water to take ages to descale the hot water tank? I'm starting to think I might have a problem unrelated to scale in the tank. Have no leaks although I think the stopcock might be weeping as its damp to touch sometimes.

Is the softener working properly on the cold water? Are you confident it was plumbed in properly? I can't comment on how long it would take to descale the tank but my understanding is the water would still be soft regardless of how much scale was in the tank.

What sort of softener do you have? I hope not one of the magnet type ones!

Cold water is soft so I thought it was just a matter of waiting for the hot water tank to descale to get soft hot water.
