Yes.

I'd assume that your water supply & waste is on the other wall, so it's easier to keep it all in the one place (& cheaper)

Electrics can be moved far easier

Plates & cooking equipment can be in the cupboards either side of it & you can put a 'feature' extractor above, leaving space for wall cupboards for tins, spices, dry food etc on the wall the other side, and the fridges below (else you have nowhere for pots, pans, cutlery, plates, food...). It also gives you clear workspace to prep food in. You could even put a smaller microwave on the wall with a 1/2 cupboard above it.

Sorry, but I'm female & cook a lot The ideal kitchen forms a triangle with the points at fridge, cooker/hob & washing area.

ok thanks. But how can I put an extractor above if the hob is in the middle of the island? It would have to be floating if you see what I mean. Or do you mean just put the extractor on the wall above the other units ie a bit to the right of where the sink will be

No, I meant a floating hood, like this



In fact, you could explore setting the oven into the wall like the pic? Give you more storage/fridge space?

One of the advantages of having the sink opposite the stove is it is easy for instance if you want to blanch or empty a pot..just swing around the sink is there. Here are s couple of pics i took the evening...wide angle lens makes it look bigger but wanted to show how it looks...
