We need a new boiler - where to start
Discussion
Just to update this thread.
We cant have a wireless stat as the house doesn't have anywhere to put it that suits us all, as such we will have WiFi wireless radiator valves and diverter valves that can zone the system bringing in and shutting off radiators as required on a timer or by remote - I think this is superb as it will suit us very well
The boiler isn't in a ventilated room and the system is heavily sludged - as such I asked for the nuclear option to make it all work nicely and fit a new boiler, the WiFi stats are extra to this quote.
Any thought? - I make it approx £1800 for all the kit inc powerflush fluid and by default £2400 labour and incidentals, have I missed anything?
Further to our recent visit to your home we now have pleasure in submitting our Quotation for the following works: -
1. To drain heating system, disconnect existing boiler and remove from site.
2. To supply and fit VAILLANT ECOTEC 637 heating boiler in the utility room cupboard, flue to run at high level across the ceiling and terminate on rear elevation.
3. To supply and fit VAILLANT ECO condense pump to discharge condense waste via the same route as flue.
4. To supply and fit FERNOX magnetic filter to return pipework below boiler.
5. To re-use all existing controls and wiring.
6. Perform POWERFLUSH to whole system and each radiator individually using the appropriate cleanser and on completion add inhibitor.
7. Refill system, commission boiler, Fire and test.
8. Remove all waste materials from site. (Including all copper, cylinder etc but not polystyrene).
9. Register Certificate of Compliance with Building Control Officer.
These works could be carried out for a total cost of £4272.00 inc VAT at 20%
Your new boiler has a 8-YEAR COMPREHENSIVE PARTS AND LABOUR GUARANTEE. A condition of the guarantee is that an annual service procedure is carried out. The cost of this service is not included in this quotation and must be carried out by our own engineers. The PROGRAMMER/TIMESWITCH/ROOM THERMOSTAT are covered by a 2 -YEAR GUARANTEE. All workmanship is guaranteed for 5-YEARS.

looks like a pretty good deal to me?
my only comment is this, for the sake of ?? (thinking some £1-1.5K?)I would look very hard at the old radiators, considering how cheap new ones are, I would be looking at swapping them all out unless they are really clean (inside), pipework usually flushes out OK, rads are another subject.

We have several new rads that all work ok, any that are blocked we will renew - my issue is the labour charge or the mark up on the kit, if I bought it at google prices it would be £1800 plus say £200 for fixings and bits of pipe so labour for 2 days at £1100 a day seems to me over the top however its fully guaranteed for a long time from a well respected indie my only comment is this, for the sake of ?? Honeywell, I like the interface and a mate of a mate works for them - they are not included in this quote
Does the quote include fitting them though? Also, what size the is gas supply to the boiler? If you've got biggest Mexico it should already be 3/4" / 22mm but if it's 15mm then it'll need to be upgraded.
As mentioned above, flushing can reveal issues with rads - but changing them might be a right pain if you can't get the same sizes and the pipework is pretty fixed.
On the price, up the road from you I just paid the invoice today for straight swap of combi at daughter's house, new heating circuit and rads upstairs, and drops to a couple of new rads downstairs front (the plumbers linked in to newish pipework and rads for downstairs extension at back of house). Took 2 guys 2 days and total cost was a shade under £4K inc VAT (£250ish was for the smart controller - Worcester Wave).
Feels like a lot, but several quotes and indications I got where there or thereabouts. I think the job went well for them - they suggested 3-4 days and some people said a week but in practice it was complete in 2 days.

Well VAT is getting on for £200 of that. Will there be 2 guys? They seem to want £500/day. Also wrong time of year I suspect - I started looking at the beginning of Sept and wanted the job doing in Oct. No chance.Someone will be along in a minute to say they can get a plumber for £80/day.
I do get the "price for the job" as I have been round the block over the years I just thought it was a bit ££ plus I have assumed my google prices have a margin on them that the installer would make, I would not be buying at the installers price I just googled it and took it off shopping.
Will get one more quote from a quality indie for comparison

paid £2.1k for a swap of an old Glowworm into a new WB regular boiler in june, moving from one wall to another but right next to eachother, and tapping into the existing pipework.
Well a powerflush is about £1000 plus filter and a few bits inc the new flue so maybe £4200 is about rightGassing Station | Homes, Gardens and DIY | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
