The wife heard a loud bang this afternoon, looked out the window to see one of the fence panels demolished and a post. White van man got out, checked his van and drove off!!

Luckily we got pictures of the van and gave them to the neighbour as they own that bit of the fence.

And van drivers wonder why they get a hard time!!

ETA: grrr can't turn the pic round!

Pretty common, I work with a lot of colleges in oxford, they had an asda food delivery van knock a bloody great brick wall down, he drove off and they only found out who it was because they have loads of cctv.

The drivers must really get it in the neck for having an accident like this, hence the "st, leg it" attitude.

When they do don't let them go soft on him despite the sob story he's bound to tell.

He was prepared to stuff you then let he reap what he sows.

wow, and obviously idiot is emblematic of all white van drivers...

was told by plod years ago after an drive-off incident you should call them immediately as he might be drunk etc and they can put a call out to watch for the vehicle but whether they bother today I don't know.

Delivery driver came to mine yesterday. After passing the time of day he went on to tell me he'd just reversed into a car at the previous delivery, a village 2 miles away. His sad excuse was--he was driving a different van today and he didn't know this one doesn't have reversing sensors until he hit something

Same here. Sainsbury' s van knocked garden wall down. Only difference was he stopped and was pretty upset. I happened to be in the front room st the time, so I was straight outside. I don't think my turn of phrase helped settle him down...

If the guy stopped and seemed sorry (and was driving for a big, fully insured company), then sounds like your reaction was unnecessary.

We all make mistakes.

I had a £300 mirror knocked off my car, and he drove off. Luckily caught on CCTV as well as me walking back from the shop. I jumped in my car and followed him he went straight home. I reporting him to the police and he was charged and we went through the insurance. He offered to pay cash which I told him I would have been happy to do had he stopped. But he rolled the dice and this time didn't win.

Think the final bill was over £1000 with the hire car.

I bet that made you feel good. How long did you have a hire car for?

I'd have taken the cash. You had an incident and it will be on your insurance for a good few years smile
