What else would a self-respecting PHer go for other than a Ferrari? Mine's got articulated steering (basically the entire thing has got a universal joint in the middle) which makes it brilliant on steep banky ground.

How about this;

I wanted something with a bit more power and faster than my old David brown/Case. David Brown, who bought and ran Aston Martin, giving his initials to the cars! Hence DB.

So I've gone from an Old Aston Martin, to a lamborghini!

Possibly a bit big for a garden though! (Although pretty small for the tractor world)

You do get some second glances driving a Lamborghini around!

Oxford sandy and black sows, I've had GOS too, and they are similar, although GOS seem more likely to go to fat. Also there is a horrible borrowed koonie koonie boar. (Although it's an oddly good cross)

They live out most of the year, but they make enough of a mess in the dry!

Out of interest how do you find turf tyres for grip?
Not too bad on the whole. I bought a full set of agri's but have never thus far used them. The turfs are pretty impressive even when laden and turning tightly they don't make too much of a mess of the lawns, yet still have a decent amount of grip when it gets a bit softer. No way I'd take them out into the field, but for around the woods and garden they're just fine.

I know what you mean about flimsy - some of the garden tractors or little groundscare things are hilarious. Ours is a step above that but it's still mildly amusing that the loader can lift nearly a ton when the tractor only weighs a ton and a half... can make things a little tricky from time to time!

I have done a deal on a used Kubota B7001 with a front loader. Now on the hunt for a rotavator attachment....

Kubota dealer is local to me so parts are in good supply too.

Pics when I get my grubby mitts on it!

I'm looking at a 2010 Kubota B1820. Does anyone have experience of this model or can offer advice on its good and bad bits?

It's offered with a mid deck mulch cutter with side discharge. Am wondering what sort of finish I can expect on around 1 acre of lawn.

Has anyone used an 18HP compact with a flail mower or rotorvater?

Am worried 18HP mat be a little underpowered for a 1.2m flail or rotorvator?

I cannot offer anything on that model, but I have 15 acres and have the following:
An old Ford 4600 with a topper (worth about £4k all in)
We also have a £200 old mower with the cutting deck removed and a tow bar attached with one of these

We have the 1.2m version and it's perfect for grass and honestly goes through brambles and thicker stuff.

We also have one a bit like this for dragging the manege

you need more than one tractor. Its a bit like cars.
I have a 1977 Kubota L322 with the PTO and I run the topper and rotorvator. I
so have 1992 JD 322 (less than 400 hrs) with a Yanmar engine and a 52” deck for mowing. Lastly you need a classic so I have a 1952 Allis Chalmers . I have a transport box on that . Three tractors should do it.

Classic tractors are garden ornaments and as much use as alpaca.

I am wondering if "one tractor fits all" is wishful thinking though!

I need small enough get around an acre of lawn but man enough to rotovate, harrow, flail 2 acres of paddock.

As with most purchases like this at the moment I couldn't have picked a worse time, limited stock everywhere and prices are very strong.

I have seen a 2009 compact with 70 hours which looks perfect but I cannot get my head around such little use over 10 years by the previous owner. Like cars should I be worried by this? Seat and general condition look as you would expect for what seems to be a genuine barn find.

My Yanmar 4wd tractor is supposed to have 14 PTO horsepower, but it’s at least 35 years old so is probably less than that now. I can mow a very steep acre with a three blade finish mower on the back. I only mow twice or three times a year so the grass is much too long for the mower, but it chomps through it without too much trouble albeit at a sedate pace.

I have a 26hp Iseki which mows about 4 hectares with a 158cm flail,a 150cm rotovator for my veg plot.
It has 450hrs and is cheap to run and maintain.
It very rarely struggles with the workload but if it does I just raise the cut a fraction but then it only really struggles if I try to bury the flails.

Get the most power your budget allows. It'll help with every task. I got a JD 3320 with a 72" deck, just under 40hp, at the start of 1st lockdown before prices went mental.

I cut 0.5 acre lawns with it, bit over the top but does it in 20 mins plus will lift a tonne, harrow, roll, etc etc or paddock with out hesitation.
