Me too. Seen as I haven't the space for one I might as well live out my garage fantasies via someone else! smile

Good luck with the build.

Begone leaking concrete prefab garage:

Quite a lot of very old concrete to remove (including an old pit that's been filled in). We'll need some new fencing as well

Position of new garage marked out:

Builders are starting to dig the foundations but struggling with soft soil so waiting for building control to come out:

Soft soil? looks like clay below the top few inches.

Unfortunately so. It's all sand. The blade of spade goes in very easily!

I'm surprised that you don't have clay just under the surface, you must be in the only part of Bedfordshire built on sand.

So were the builders! Lots of sand quarries in Leighton Buzzard though

Picture is very deceiving, it looks like clay from about below where your boy's left hand is.

Any more updates... been a while, I'm guessing there has been progress?

Reached a bit on an impass... we had building control out this morning to check the first trench that had been dug (due to the ground) they've now told us they need a full application.

This is in despite of us having full planning permission and following the rules (within 1m of the boundary and made of non-combustable materials)

What does "A full application" mean?

Panic over. Slight confusion with the size of the build with building control (eg. They thought it was bigger than 30sqm). Also as it's made of non combustible materials we're ok being less than 1m from the boundary.

The only change was to make the foundations 600 wide

Concrete for the foundations are being poured tomorrow

Garage floor & shed base went down yesterday and are trying well (Despite Bedfordshire being hit by a big thunderstorm over night):

Monday's job is sorting out the neighbours fence (i've said i'll replace it as our dog can jump it) and the non Tuesday the walls for the garage will start going up

We have walls!

Works continues:

Almost time for the lintel (need 1 more course from memory) and the final view courses to get us to the 2.5m roof height.

Roof trusses should be delivered on Wed and the fence panels are coming on Monday:

Also need a couple more gravel boards! (we're replacing the neighbours tired old fence at the same time).
