Need to cap off the old hot fill pipe- confused with the options toolstation are presenting me with - do I need a brass cap or a blanking disc?! Or both??

You have a gate valve there already so once you remove the washing machine hose , just leave the gate valve turned off. Alternatively you can buy a piece that just screws into the gate valve

This, just put a washing machine hose washer into the cap. Never trust a valve as a stop end.

I wouldn't use a valve as a stop end! For the sake of a quid get a proper compression stop end.

I visited a customer of mine a few months ago who had a flooded house, as some idiot had used an inline valve as a stop end under the floor board. Eventually the vibrations caused the valve to open!!!

http://www.screwfix.com/p/stop-end-15mm-pack-of-2/... is what I would fit in place of the inline tap.

Stick one of these on the valve and use the washer from the redundant hose between the cap and valve.

For 'gate' valve, should we read 'globe' valve? Either way, it's just a stop valve, but I would prefer that the open end of a valve be capped (unless it's a relief valve!) to give better protection against leaks.
