Council tax depends on borough, between £1000-£2000 pa
Gas £100 pm if ch on it
Electric £60 pm unless heating on it in which case you'll get raped
Water £200-£300 pa poss less if on a meter and you don't waste it unnecessarily

Maintenance depends on age of house, condition on fittings and how much you want to spend

We are in a fairly new house and pay around £65 month for gas and electricity, and that's a 4 bed place with two of us here. We also pay around £240 a year on water. Council tax is around £1800 iirc, Internet is £30 with line rental, add £40 for good sky package. BBC license fee is £144 a year, house insurance £200 year (new house). £200 month on food, prob £100/month on DIY odds and ends, mostly stuff for me & the garage though!

Good furniture is expensive, as is sofas. Cheap stuff will last half the time & end up tatty quicker obviously etc etc

For furniture and appliances: buy cheap, you'll end up buying twice.

To keep heating bills down, make sure you have a condensing boiler with more capacity than the house needs - you don't want it running flat out all the time.

Council tax etc will depend on where you live - so do your research carefully. In the Midlands, Solihull c.tax is cheaper than Birmingham for the same band.

Insurance: shop around, again location makes a difference by post code. Again, research this carefully!

Condensing boilers more efficient at lower flow temps.

Council theft estimates seem low, ours is £1900pa for a house worth just over £200k.

To run my house costs £500 per month on average - excludes mortgage and repairs (none needed in last 4 years). It really depends on a lot of factors - including area (my council tax is about 50% of the £500), size of house and efficiency (age).

Does your mrs like a hot house? I'm fortunate that we prefer a cooler house rather than sub tropical, otherwise gas would be way more than the £40 per month we pay, it also helps that it's a modern house, and we have a wood burner.

Do you want a cleaner or a gardener? It all adds up

Don't forget to factor in critical illness cover etc. If we didn't get ours through my Mrs work benefits scheme it would be costing circa £180 a month.

We've learnt pretty quick that every job you want/need doing is a 2 grand job!

Seems a little high but I suppose it depends what band the council has lumped your house in. Ours is band B which means its about £1100 pa on a house worth around £350k but the house's valuation is mainly due to being in London with its crazy housing market.

It's only a 2 bed terrace FFS.

Can't remember the banding, but the number sticks in my mind for obvious reasons!

It was a new build when we bought it 3 years ago, which seems to give the robbing bar stewards licence to band it however they choose.
