Hi All,

Looking to sort out our bedroom floor while we are having the bathroom done (a stud wall is being re-done in the process).

Currently, its T&G floorboards, but with several sections which are not in great condition, and very squeaky/bouncy. Due to retrofit of various things over the years (Central Heating, Downlights, etc)

Thinking of ripping the whole lot up, fitting acoustic batts to reduce airborne noise, and then re-laying the floor.

Been looking at the various options, and 22mm T&G Chipboard is coming out as far cheaper than anything else. Was thinking of going for this, and adding noggins to the joists (600mm centers) at key stress points.

Any thoughts? Other product recommendations? T&G would cost about £80. Was looking at £200+ for 22mm ply T&G, £180 for floorboards...

You wait until you get water in it. You'll be exiting downstairs vertically in short order, just like Alton Towers....hehe

Sorry, should have been clearer. This is for the bedroom, not the bathroom! Bathroom is getting (IIRC) 18mm marine ply - up to the fitter that biggrin

Just remember, if you need to lift chipboard at a later date, it's likely to breakup especially if nailed!

And any leaks it will turn to cardboard.

I hate the stuff!!

Use T&G 22mm chipboard OP, P5 grade you'll be fine. Use some 'No sqeak' in conjunction with screws, sorted. Some info here Caber floor

Add more noggins across joists, use chipboard screws screwed right underneath head, allow for expansion near radiator pipes etc.

As above.

All the merchants we use only supply water resistant boards.
Can't comment on the diy sheds.

We've got chipboard and at the first sensible opportunity I will replace. Hateful.

So sounds like, chipboard 22mm with no squeak, t&G glued, proper screws no problem.

However skimp on it, try to use 18mm, don't noggin where needed, nail it down, etc = rubbish

Will look and see what the price of 18/22mm ply flooring is but I think it's cost prohibitive. This isn't the forever house.
