Fire Surround Sealant

Can anyone recommend a fire surround sealant that won't crack and crumble? It's to seal a metal hood against the brick surround. The gap is around 5-6 mm.

I've so far tried Mapeflex Firestop and Geocel Fire Block Seal, both say they are good for at least 1200 degrees C!

Would you be able to poke in a bit of thin fire rope and seal with some black fire cement?

That would be possible. I'll have a look for some thin fire rope.
