Anyone had any success with painting one of these?

Mine is the type used in many new builds from just over ten years ago. It's a horrible yellowing white plastic, that is also now quite dirty from various plumbers going in and out of the loft.

I was thinking one of these flexible Plasti-kote type paints would be a good idea?

This is what it looks like currently:

Dulux do a "difficult surfaces primer". I used it to paint a melamine infill panel above some fitted wardrobes which was yellowing. I over coated with the same emulsion as the walls and it looks great. I suspect you could do two coats of primer and then paint with undercoat and eggshell or just two coats of emulsion over the primer.

Horrible things. Quick and easy to install though.

As an alternative you could whip it out and make a replacement out of timber. A bit of matching architrave round the outside and a piece of cellotex stuck to the back of the door and bobs your uncle.

Alteratively Plasti-kote do a plastic primer. I'd imagine good prep is important. A light key with some sandpaper and a thorough clean with alcohol or similar before you start.

You could even skim the ceiling whilst up there wink

Or save all the hassle and take it out and replace with a new one cost about £30
