I like the paraffin idea!

Thanks Mike for the research. Clearly it works, but I think for the labour and results achieved, isn't worth it.

I just need to fit a Komodo Dragon into my ecosystem and that's the lot ready to go I think!

An actual Dragon would be more use as regards fire lighting, admittedly it's a bit extreme...

Throw them in a lit stove, they soon stop flapping.

Put them in that brick making machine thing. That'll stop 'em!

I use a couple of handfuls of shreddings to kindle whatever kindling (twigs?) I'm using each day,
so in winter they never accumulate.
In summer they go on the compost heap.

Can you not just cut out the shredding bit and burn the paper straight away.

Ha, that's a good point. When I got the shredder it was just to dispose of paperwork. Only later did I have the thought to convert it into a conveniently burnable form. So yes, I suppose I could just keep the paperwork as A4 sheets then roll them into kindling... Arse, anyone want to buy a shredder? spin

I suppose I could do an experiment. After all, it doesn't say you can't put chickens in it. According to the icons on the top, the only things you can't put in it are paperclips, CDs, ties and small children.

I can easily throw the shreddings away, but it seemed a bit silly to have a box of shreddings at one end of my living room and a box of kindling and logs at the other... mind you it's only domestic use so not m3 of shreddings.

What he said; do you really generate that much stuff that needs shredding? Old crap shredders make non-confetti ribbon shreddings which are great for lighting fires, but why not bypass the shredding and just scrunch the paper up and use it to light fires with?

I have visions of the Argos returns queue - a bloodstained shredder with lots of feathers sticking out the top, and a faint clucking sound coming from somewhere...
