unfortunately with a lot of tradesmen their 'experience' trumps all manufacturers recommendations.
I like that 'phrase. (40 years experience of doing it incorrectly is not much use.)

Oh dear, if he doesn't want messages at 19:30 switch the phone off. We had a great relationship with our builder, if you are spending 10's of thousands then you expect things done right. I would sit down with them today & thrash it out. You don't want to fall out with your builder but if something is not right it needs sorting & his reply has rubbed you up the wrong way. I'm not familiar with Velux but it may just be heel & toeing of the glass?
Agreed a bit of an attitude problem from the Builder there - all you did was send a message! Our builder was great and didn't mind us contacting him after 5, if he didn't want to answer he didn't. Simple.

I must say, one thing Velux seem consistently good at from my experience is the customer service. Nothing but good things to say about them.

I'd have a bit of a word with your builder personally. If he doesn't want to be bothered after hours then he can turn his phone off.

I always message my guys at whatever time so that it's not forgotten about over night. If it's urgent, they reply there and then. If not, they reply in the morning.

I have:

1 x LCD Keypad to Front Door location
8 x Wired Dualtech (Petsafe) PIR's
1 x Gardtec 600 Panel - position to be decided
1 x Internal Speaker
1 x Remote phone dialler
1 x Outside Bell with LED strobe to be situated above right to entrance door
1 x Dummy Bell for rear OF property
2 x Gtag Fobs to set/unset Alarm

That was £500 fitted but I ran the wires myself which was dead easy.

I would use Honeywells Galaxy panels I have never used risco so I couldn't comment. I would recommend at least one door contact , usually on the door nearest the keypad just for setting and unsetting. As for the detectors i use Optex range. You can add smoke detectors to the intruder alarm as well. Have a look at security warehouse.

I feel your pain. So many small things on our job where if a little bit more thought had gone in earlier it would have made a difference.

Luckily I noticed the big one (the rear window opening being uneven width) in time for it to be corrected!

Excellent thread, I'm doing a similar project so have sent you an email.

Please keep updating us, learning a lot from what you're doing.

1 won't be an option; if you go for 2 who will correct the 'minor issues'?

What does your builder think? That is how will sourcing the bi-folds and lantern impact on his schedule? Will it have much impact on and matter much what state the house is in over Christmas?

OTOH, from what I can make out, the left hand row will only light up the tops of the wardrobes smile

Always avoid the nuclear option if possible. Amicably part ways and source the remaining items elsewhere.

This , get him to fit last window then pay up and let him walk away. By the sounds of it no matter what you said it would carry on on the same fashion. Start looking at a different suppliers for the rest.

It sounds like the openings in the brickwork are not perfectly square and he's using the thermal break to correct that. Or have I mis-understood you?

Come on Toxic, you know you work in an anal industry, we see things others wouldn't even think about, let alone see.

Don't even get me started on faceplate alignment, screws or in-ceiling lights lining up. Grrrrrrrrrrr.

Starting to panic about my build now and he has only been here two days! Lol. Although he's done a brilliantly neat job toothing out the bricks.

I'm not sure it would make any difference to the window itself as long as its square its not likely to fall out. However it does show they either rushed or don't have an eye for detail. I have some sympathy because its your house and cash but you can't stand over them every step of the way nor can you get into every single detail like that ," can you move that fixing down a couple of cm ?" You'll go mad.

I think there is a market for us AV Guys to move into top flight project management!

I am dealing with one PM on a £1m+ project outside of london who is useless, missing emails, over a week to respond, failing to issue variance notes.

All of which is costing the client money as we all have to chase or adjust.

You're probably right however it's not quite as simple as you suggest. You need to avoid drilling at the junction between the mortar and a brick so the fixing location does need to be moved slightly from time to time.

Yep. Used them for most of the door hardware on our recent build. Decent quality and good delivery.

Why are you driving around to pick up such small items for the trades?

These guys don't sound very organised and professional.

Buying kit from Toolstation and B&Q is all a bit DIY/amateurish?

I feel for you - nothing is more frustrating than when people are thoughtless.

ETA forget the beers - crack the whip - all sounds very cosy.
