I'm no expert, but I've been wondering the same thing as I need someone in to do some painting. I guesstimated two to two and a half, three weeks max for the job.

2000 sq/ft 5 bedroom house, all bare plaster & woodwork so everything required, took my man 2.5 weeks by memory, was paying him £80 a day. He normally charges out at £120 a day but this was around Christmas & everything was one colour so easy for him. House was obviously totally empty.

I've got a rangemaster. Must be 20 years old, works fine. Where are you as can recommend a great painter near high Wycombe.

How about these: http://www.britannialiving.co.uk/product-range/ran... We've had one (duel fuel) for twelve years without any issues. It gets hammered.

It's actually an Italian outfit, quite why they call themselves Britannia escapes me....

We have a Stoves with 4 induction rings (plus two regular ceramic ones that we *never* use, and a warming plate that is very rarely on!). Had it 8 years not, and love it!
I think the current equivalent would be http://www.appliancecity.co.uk/stoves/cookers/ster...
Highly recommended!

£200 a day, roughly figure out how many days you think it would take someone who knows what they are doing, do the maths.
Wow! £200 a day for a decorator.

London decorators are £100-120/day.
Agency decorators are £160 plus vat per day.
I usually get 1 or 2 decorators from the agency then if they're good I'll contact them directly to save a load of dosh.
Hiring a self employed decorator is better as you don't need to watch them. Daily rate guys will slack off and slow it down so rather get a fixed price.

My daily guys I use, I'll tell them it's a 6 day job and I'll pay no more than that but if they finish in time I'll still pay them 6 days worth IF I'm happy with the finish. Seems to work for me

TN, I am paying around the same as Djtemeka, ie around £120/day.

I always get the guys to look at the job and tell me the time required, so cant really help with duration.

Paint / materials always surprises me with how much it ends up costing, so dont just think about labour

I think he said B's were a bit out of budget range. We bought twelve years ago, gave me a shock when I checked current prices. Now same as Lacanche which iirc were always more expensive.

Regarding extraction hoods: If you get one that vents out, Lacanche do one that has a a very powerful motor, they work well.

Roof lantern looks really nice, makes me wish I had pushed for one now but the neighbours needed lots of grovelling just to allow me to have 4 metres on the extension with a flat roof, even though we have 30 metre gardens.

I did that initially as one side seems really nice but the other side is extremely difficult and kicked off about it straight away, so it got rejected despite the reasons being a load of rubbish. Went round and grovelled and they accepted 4m length rather than 6m but a height of no more than 3m so had to drop the idea of a lantern.

The whole house has been stripped back to brick now, fireplaces removed and 5m by 6m shed in the garden is being built to store all the builder's materials and equipment securely, obviously will be great for us later too. The roof is now off and work on the loft is well underway too, they will be finishing that first before moving on to anything else.

For decorating, I have used Harris McAuley, 07966 580673, a few times over the years, the last time was 5 years ago, and was quite impressed with his attention to detail - sanding down properly, masking up, removing sockets and fixtures if possible rather than painting around them etc. He wasn't cheap though but he gets on with it to the point where you forget that he is there.
