But that'll be because the house is well insulated
We have a 13kw heater in a room that we were guaranteed needed no more than 5max
Our house in a 18c country house with single glazed Ali windows with gaps in the frames, our walls are porous when the wind blows.
When it's cold or blowy we find the stove too small and wish we had a 17kw version
It also heats the room upstairs!
Not to derail the thread but I wish it was. House was built in the 60's and has very little insulation. What there is, is shagged. We have a 13kw heater in a room that we were guaranteed needed no more than 5max

OP get used to carry wood in all day long

26kw is OTT, however................
I was advised to install a 4kw by a salesman who worked it out by room size and a booklet, so I ignored him!! and bought an 8kw from a local farm store.
When an independent installer arrive to fit it, he said I did the right thing, and I'm glad I went for an 8kw, don't forget, you can have it as hot as you like depending on how much you throw in it, mine heats the whole house providing I open all the doors. Best thing I put in the house, still restoring the house.
are the logs in the pile for show? I burn that much a day so do you refill daily or is your stove not as manly as mine ? I was advised to install a 4kw by a salesman who worked it out by room size and a booklet, so I ignored him!! and bought an 8kw from a local farm store.

As Above. I was advised a 2KW I think it was.
I new better. Obviously.
Put a 5KW in.
And it was the right thing - but I certainly don't burn that much a day. I mix the fuel content so its 'Roomheat', Anthracite, and Wood.
Works well.
I don't run a power station.
I'll fill the fire place store up about three times from Oct to Feb.
I'd say I burn about 5 to 10 logs a night with more at the weekend and that's if I fire it up. I can't sit about all day burning logs but I use some coal, and some wood from a window firm near my work, I'll use this first before the logs. I cut the logs myself and they are from my land, so I'm not tea leafing them, they fell the year before and have seasoned or I cut and store for a year.
I would not fill the wood store everyday, bks to that.
I also have LPG for Central heating for those who are at home all day.

I have it going from morning to night as there is usually someone in. No heating is used apart from 6am until 8am when the log burner is re stocked. I am racing through logs but using very little oil. Swings and roundabouts.

The pile on the floor is about to be stacked, not for show, I've got no one I want to show it too anyway, it's just a pile off st wood as the wife says.
I have five 'show' logs on each side of the stove, selected for beauty, uniformity and arborcultural perfection - while the ugly ones and bits of old chair, table etc are what actually get burned!Simpo Two said:
