Hi all,

I know this is a common ask, but I need help designing a kitchen. I have bought a flat, with a very small kitchen (2.2m x 2.0m). The kitchen needs replacing, and I have a builder lined up to do the work, but I will need to supply all the materials and design the kitchen.

I'm finding it hard to get the configuration right, I'm not sure whether to put units across the back and one side, or both sides.

This is a rental property by the way, so I need to be reasonably sensible with my spending.

I was thinking of getting black matt tiles on the floor, with white gloss units (maybe ones like the Houston range from Wickes http://www.wickes.co.uk/Products/Kitchens/Kitchen-... . I'm not sure what colour tiles to put on the wall though.

This is the Houston range I was thinking of using (obviously this kitchen will be much much smaller).

The next few photos are of the kitchen in its current state:

My current thought is to have units at the back and the right hand side, but as it's a small one bedroom flat, is it better to have fewer units and make the kitchen less cramped?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Start with the basics, i.e what appliances must you have and what would be nice to have.
If you had worktops all round what journey would you need to prepare and cook a meal That should identify how much worktop you can get away with.
Then maximise storage, above and below

Cheers, that's good advice, I'll do that.
