ok so over the past few years we've had sofa.com, laura ashley, habitat and most recently m&s. the m&s one has to go back after less than 9 months v gentle so back in the market

all the laura ashley furniture we have had has been well made albeit v middle of teh road style wise. we previously had a great experience with sofa.com and whilst their frames are made in poland rather than england, we had a great experience and am considering them for the next purchase.

so with the above budget in mind for a 200cm plus sofa (fixed or cushion back not sure yet) here is my list of target retailers

- sofa.com (their ebay store offers decent discounts)
- laura ashley (ebay store is quite good)
- made.com (not seen any of their stuff and seen mixed reviews)
- couch.co.uk (saw in a magazine dont know much about them)

style wise its likely something more classical with turned legs and padded low rise armrests (so it can serve as a pillow when needed!)

flexible covering wise but likely looking for a bold statement piece either by way of patterned fabric or shouty colours

any thoughts welcomed!

We have sofas/armchairs from Ashley Manor. Pretty decent quality, made in the UK (if that matters), a wide range of styles and most seem to be available in a range of fabrics - from boring shades to pretty lurid patterns.

Made.com have a showroom in Soho, if you're ever in London. Product is good quality.

Try Achica.com - they have good deals.

Anything in the John Lewis clearance sale? I've been very happy with my JL sofa's over the last 8 years.

Never understood obsession with made.com. I they are the ones that have/had showroom in Notting Hill, the quality was abysmal. The whole spiel about cutting middle man is just that. Cheaply made overpriced Chinese crap. JL Halo range is quite good. There are many small UK manufacturers that will make much better sofas for (probably) little more money.

I beg to differ, I've found Made.com to have distinctive designs, good quality and good prices. I dare say you could find better or cheaper if you really looked, but in the grand scheme of things I'd say they are pretty good. Absolutely shockingly poor delivery process though!

Might be something here, probably over budget though.
