In my experience the best thing to find to stop the development is one of the largest Roman Villas in Europe buried on site.
I've just had a leaflet through the door about a proposed development of 50 houses up the road from me, it's right next to a Roman Fort. Literally right next to it. It's pretty inevitable that there's something in the site, but how would you go about ensuring it was found and taken account of?

Most of the village is already up in arms about another 150 house scheme, so can't imagine this is going to go down well!

I don't see how the larger scheme is viable given the access from the village is up a narrow street that is clogged with cars as it is, but I'm not strongly against the development. Much of the argument against seems to be that the town centre will die because no one can get parked to buy stuff because of all the other cars parked there. Oblivious to the fact that those people are parked there because they're buying stuff and the entire village is in walking distance of the centre. Bizarre arguments.

Anyway, my only real objection is that if I were to buy a part of either of these fields I would have no chance of planning permission. But if I wanted to build 200 of them then that seems to be OK. I'd like to be able to build my own house one day, but it's pretty difficult to get a site and permission, unless you have the capital to build your house and 49 neighbours. Grrrrr.

I know, the system is odd in that way. House builder spend hundred of thousands promoting sites to get the into the system. To be fair, around here, single plots get consent quite easily.

department has seen the opening of loads of European mini markets and gambling shops in the local town, whilst other types of shop have closed.
What's this got to do with housing ?
Because they seem hell bent on letting the local town go downhill whilst ruining the area around it.
you sure you're not a bit racist?
How can referring to my local council's planning committee chairman who is white British be considered racist?
It can't. Unless you're really dim, you know exactly what I mean. Why didn't you say Eastern European if you were too scared to say Polish?
What the hell are you on about?

They are European shops. Some are Polish based, some are Portugese based etc. They aren't all Eastern European.
It was a simple, closed question.
If you had local knowledge you'd understand how the glut of cheap booze shops has seen the area change beyond all recognition. It doesn't matter who is opening them, there are far too many. Do we really want to encourage a bunch of pissheads to loiter in the town centre?

Nope. How does building houses in NIMBY's line of sight cause that to happen?

Why would you assume I have no local knowledge?

I'm not talking about that, I'm talking about the glut of cheap booze shops allowed in the town centre. The planners have got the balance wrong.

So what's your local knowledge then?

Question one, to both contestants:

  • Can you remember when this was all fields?

No, but I can remember when there was a wide variety of shops serving the whole community. Now the overwhelming majority of shops sell booze. There are drunks on the streets waiting for them to open at 09:00. Personally I don't think that's a good thing, do you?

I answered your question. You, like the OP, haven't bothered to answer mine. You've also gone off on a tangent.

Cheap booze shops are the same planning category as any other shop, the planners therefore have no control over this factor. The licensing authority might

The lesson for anyone purchasing a house overlooking fields; they may not be fields for ever.
A few years ago we visited a friend of my wife's who had just bought a home near Basingstoke. As they showed us their decent size garden, nice view and walk in wardrobe I tbought "make the most of that view and quiet as that's prime developmemt land". Late last year she was all over facebook saying how disgusting it was that they were building there and they should think of the bats!

They were also disgusted that when her parents let their dogs roam all day in the fields, they were found shot by the farmer.

When a house comes up for sale that over looks our farmland they always advertise "farmland views", however they don't pay us a royalty on those views and an awful lot of the bh and moan about us going about our business. NIMBY tossers.

Oh dear, sorry but that was bloody hilarious!

Sat on me own in a pub and roared out laughing, worth the strange looks though. Well done Scott.
