Will soon be partaking extensive alterations /extension to Zyp Towers.

Will be knocking out several walls to create one large living kitchen area, and extending out the side for an office and larger utility.
Three of the bedrooms are above this whole area, so when I'm doing the work I want to incorporate sound proofing to the ceiling.

Two questions -
1. Best stuff to use
2. Can recessed lights be installed (without compromising the sound proof quality too much)?

I'm happy to rip all the existing ceilings down if need be.

Thanks.

Rip ceilings down, install 100mm medium density mineral wool, then re-fit a new ceiling fitted to the joists with resilient bars.

Install 1x 15mm plasterboard for OK performance, or 2x 15mm for Good performance.

This spec will work well for airborne sound insulation and will help with impact sound transmission. Carpets upstairs will help make the impact sound performance even better.

Is that it?
No fancy stuff required?

I'd be happy with the above if it works well!

I found the info on this site really helpful - and the prices weren't bad either so I bought my stuff from there.

Geez - how big is your house/ceiling!

I just used standard rebar on the wall I made. Seemed fine. I now need to noise insulate the loft though as I'm getting flanking noise into the roof space from next door as well! frustrting.

Wrong calcs - it'd actually be around £1700....

50 sqm ceiling, but will have around 30 recessed lights, so I'll also need the light covers at £12 a pop!
