When I was 16, i worked at the local garden machinery workshop. One day, someone dropped off a large wooden crate they found in their elderly dads shed and asked us to rebuild whatever was in there.
It had been stripped down to every last nut and bolt. 2 days of head scratching and reassembly - one of these emerged, minus the fancy paint job!

Hi Sparky the Cat!Moto-Lita steering wheel mod
And the best bit - the tired and wheezy old B&S motor replaced with this rascal
Im hoping you may be able to help me!
My late grandads Atco 12 36 mower has just thrown its conrod through the engine housing and after being told to scrap it and actually getting somewhat upset at the prospect, I took to the internet to try and find a replacement B&S 12HP block.
I came across your post on here about you swapping the engine but the images you posted are no longer viewable.
Would you be willing to let me know which engine you retrofitted so I can get some life back into the old girl? Really dont want her to go up there with my grandad (as much as he'd love to jump on it and cut gods paddocks)!!!!
You can get me on 07908080195 if its easier.
Best regards
Benedict

OK, here's mine, a 21 year old Countax K14 Twin. 14hp of Briggs & Stratton powered 1994 vintage British engineering!
Funny thing is, it's shown here sat on my lawn. Erm, that's pretty much all of my current lawn! However I have another thread running covering our self-build project, and it's needed for that. Recently bought from eBay, it's done a great job clearing our paddock ready for groundworks, and it's had some much deserved TLC including a good clean, new headlight lenses, belts, steering pinion/quadrant and a front inner tube. It all works...electric clutch on the cutting deck, lights, powered grass collector, PTO, the lot. Only thing that doesn't work is the seat safety switch that's been disabled as I assume it's quite annoying. Brake/clutch one works again as of today. Hopefully ready for the next 21 years of service!
Shiny engine...
You sure it's that old? We have a Countax C600 which looks older mechanically than that and a hell of a lot older condition wise. Think ours is about 96 - 99 model. Would post a pic but it's stuck in the shed with a hydrostatic drive that has all but lost it's get up and go. On the look out for a new mower as of yesterday. Recommendations please.
The cockpit (ha!)
Funky little keyring...
Many levers which do many things...
Truth is, by the time the house is built, it might actually be a bit big for the garden, so I may end up selling this on and getting something smaller. However with serious 3' high brush, thistles and grass to clear before we started, I don't think a lesser mower would have coped. We shall see...if I do the garden in a mower friendly shape I might just keep it...I do quite like it's Meccano/Land-Rover qualities!

Bought this ten years ago
used for £2500, now with 7000hrs it was time for a new beastie..
And after testing; zero turn ferris, kubota frontal and another iseki out front, this won the day, husqvarna p525d, kubota 30hp diesel lump, 155cm cut mulching deck, air suspension seat means supremely comfortable, its quiet and incredibly manoeuvrable, well chuffed, gives a great finish in half the time.

Having just moved house I'm looking for a new lawnmower as I left my old 46cm mountfield at for my tenants.
Any recommendations based on:
sub £300
Petrol
Not a large garden
Preferably new
From having a look around there's plenty available from Webb, cheapest Hayter or Honda Izy?
I'd love a mulching mower but the grass is in shade a lot so not sure if that might not be a good idea?
I bought a Hyundai 120v rechargeable mower to replace a rusted through izy..... miles better, silent, self propelled etc.Any recommendations based on:

That looks interesting, ominous and old! Any more details? On a much more mundane note, my plastic decked McCulloch mentioned earlier (5 years earlier...) continues to give sterling service. It needed a carb diaphragm in 2016, so I gave it a service at the same time.
Other than that and an occasional blade sharpening, it's required no attention. At £90 brand new 12 years ago, even if it irreparably sts itself tomorrow it's been excellent value!
