New deck arrived at the shop today. They'd tried to talk me into a new one but I figured the engine is still firing up first time after 16 years of neglect so it seemed rude to bin it.

Posted in the lawn thread as well but just had this delivered today only cost me £70

Needs a good service but I'm quite chuffed with it.

Where did you order the replacement deck from? I can only find them at about £140 via ebay?

What's the wheeled strimmer like? I was temped by one a few years ago....
I've got a newer wheeled DR strimmer I'll post a picture later. Honestly, I now have a FS460 strimmer and don't think I'll use the DR again.

New arrival , sadly it has a design flaw with the spring latch keeping the rear grass collector tight. Slightest bump and it comes away dripping grass. Anyone have a John Deere with collector ? Think I need to angle grind the latch...

That's a bit what mine looked like yesterday, the broken deck, I have no welding gear available, but I did have an angle grinder an old satellite dish and 5 suitable nuts and bolts, oh and not to forget a 1lb ball pein hammer.

This is the result :-)

Eta a good lick of paint and you will not even see the join lol

Just worked it out, crafty little bolt hiding under 20 years of old gunk

Good effort! thumbup I did consider something like that for mine but there isn't much solid metal left to bolt bits to so I bottled it.

The extra drilled hole is testament to the lack of material to bolt to

Lol

I filled all the remaining holes underneath with some fibreglass type paste that I found in the garage.

Top bodging at its best 😁
