Lawn by Lewis Craik, on Flickr

This is how our lawn was earlier today. It has had 3 or 4 cuts this year, I raked the thatch out last weekend and aerated (by fork) and fertilised it today. Hopefully some of the yellowness will go, or am I cutting it too short?

The main problem I have with the lawn is it spreading into the flower bed on the right, what is the best way to make a boundary between lawn and bed?

It's easy but requires maintenance. Cut an edge with a half-moon iron and then ensure you keep it trimmed with the edging shears. Easy! biggrin

That's what I've been doing, but maybe not enough. The main problem is that I struggle to mow right to the edge.

Does your mower have a roller at the back? Mowers with 4 wheels make it much harder and is why I never recommend them on these threads. if you have a roller then it should be easy to run along the edge.

This thread concerns gardening, which is a skill. Using a strimmer is not a skill.

There is no reason ever, EVER, to use a strimmer on a lawn. biggrin

A fun weekend!

For those looking at edging, i can highly recommend EVEREDGE, the best on the market. Just finished another fence ..... 300ft to go!

Well made a start. Did the thing with the fork. Don't know how you chaps with golf courses do it by hand. Was enough for me.

Got down some lawn feed and gave it a good water. I'm away until Friday now and I think it's supposed to be pretty hot hence the watering.

Stage 1

Stage 2 - Forked

Hoping not to come back to a burnt out mess which is what has happened previously, I'm guessing due to not enough water.

Any tips on getting shot of dandelions? I don't need or want a bowling green with my kids, just fancy getting rid of the yellow buggers!

Oh and I have lawn envy after seeing some of these lawns laugh

Where is mine along with dead pitches from the dog. We've seeded it and it's getting an hour of water a day.

It's a good colour and thick, so I think the majority is fine, just need the rest to grow now!

From what I can tell there seems to be two different types of lawn weed killer, I use one in spring/autumn as spot application, so only on the weeds. Then in August I sprayed the whole lawn with the other type. That sorted out the dandelions on my lawn.

I've done nothing but cut our grass over the last two summers we lived here and it's more moss than grass now. Plan to make a start this weekend on sorting it out. Got a scarifier, seed and feed coming this week. Also just ordered some of those aerator spikes that you fit to your shoes, I figure if I wear them while scarifying I can do two jobs at once biggrin Will get some pics up as I go.
