I really need to cut mine. It's pretty dry on top, but very soft under foot. Is it worth the risk on a high cut, or do I just leave it?

Cut mine today. Can't believe how much the grass has grown so late in the year.

Cut mine at the back today (south facing) didnt bother with the front though.

Cant believe it and I reckon I may end up doing it again looking at the weather!

That's looking lovely, myvision! cool

Mine could do with a cut, too. It's going to get a fair bit soggier over the next few days though.

Is anyone hoping for any lawn-related goodies from Santa?

I'm not expecting anything lawn-related, but a couple of garden-related things are on my wish-list: a saw horse to aid in chainsawing logs and palettes, and an LED grow-light so that I can get my greenhouse seedlings going sooner.

^Looks nice, but would look 1,000% better if you sorted that woeful path edging!

I was wondering if I should try and give the lawn a high cut whilst off over crimbo, then I come in here and you're all doing it!

Should have done it yesterday, the lawn was dry and it's rained all day today. Will see what it's like at the weekend. It's grown so long it's bent over in the wind, which can't be doing it much good.

Are there any products I should apply to lush it up/help it along at this time of year? It's a bit sparse in places, has been all year as the lawn is slightly boggy in one patch, and gets walked on quite alot as people cut the corner of the path...

You can apply ferrous sulphate as a green-up, but you wouldn't normally apply fertiliser at this time of year.

I say "wouldn't normally", but the temperature is so bizarrely mild that I almost wonder if you could apply a low dose of an Autumn fertiliser, even now. I reckon in these conditions it would do no harm. Let's face it, none of us have seen temperatures like these in December before, so we're all guessing what to do!

yes with mild temperatures, no cold spells on the horizon and the grass still growing there's no problem giving the grass a very low nitrogen feed if it needs it.

Chaps, I laid new turf at the beginning of October, thusly:

Today, this is the best bit:

And this is the worst bit, ie. the whole area under the canopy of the maple that was brutally cut back last summer to no avail:

Can you give me any advice please? It's so mild now that I feel I could be doing something.

Personally I would leave it a few more weeks and then feed with a decent all purpose lawn feed. Too early to be troubling it with lawn mowers, rakes and scarifiers.
